I just got home (a 2 hr trip) from another 3 frustrating days on Henry's Fork...sporatic PMDs, no real Green Drake Action on the lower part of the Ranch but successful fishing with caddis at nightfall.

Problem is, while talking to a couple of fishermen gearing up beside me at the parking area, one asked me if my rod was glass or cane...the rod on that day was a cane rod but I had (just had) to mention that everything else in my bag was glass. One of the fellows (they had already indicated they were from PA) asked what kind of glass rods I had and I mentioned a handful including one made by a fellow on a (here comes the brain issue) McCormick Blank. Another of the PA group then said, "you mean McFarland?" and I said that it was and I forgot the correct name. If you haven't guessed by now, the one who asked about my rods was Mike McFarland and I salvaged what was left of my dignity by remembering that we met at the ********* Glass Clave last year. I just hope they didn't mess up their casting too much during the day laughing at the guy who couldn't remember McFarland Rods.

It's funny how that works. when you need to say something when it matters most..the old brain gets stuck in neutral. You are not alone my friend.

Don't worry. You are not the only one to fall into this kind of "mistake"

There’s got to be a corollary to Murphy’s Law to cover your experience....

Just don't ask me what type of fly I'm using.
I can't remember the names when I'm tying them, let alone when I'm on the water.

You’re a brave man for sharing hahaha. Great story. We all have these slip ups, you have a better story now than if you’d just “met Mike McFarland while fishing”
