I stopped taking pictures a couple of years ago when each big bass started looking the same-LOL. My favorite photos seen here are kids I took fishing two years ago who had never been fishing before. They were all 10 years old and their smiles speak for themselves. Believe it or not, the two girls actually caught the 5 pounder unassisted and released it after the photo. Great memories for them and for me.

Awesome idea and heartwarming and amazing photos! Thanks for sharing!

This summer for the very first time i took my 8 year old son backpacking in the Cascades. He slept outdoors in a tent for the first time. It was a beautiful night under the stars and i spooked a herd of elk when i crawled out of the tent to pee. Then i grabbed to camera to take a picture of our first "camp". Caught some brookies on the fenwick FF75-4. He really had a great time.

I'm not what you would call a sensitive guy (just ask my wife). But I will confess that I'm getting a bit teary eyed looking at all the fishing photos of family and friends! Maybe it just shows how much fly fishing brings people together … is that to sentimental …

As this decade comes to a close I'll recant an old Irish saying: may the best of the past decade be the worst of your next decade!

Probably this....only because it was a solo trip, somehow managed to get the video (which I pulled a still off of) just right.

2 Favorites for different reasons.

PB Rio and I've seen some MUCH larger specimens.Think I may have the program dialed in this year.

And this was 2 days after my Dad's memorial service. Russ, who I've known almost 30 years and one of his friends- Capt. Chewy took me out for a MI style float chucking streamers on several BAG rods. I was in bad shape mentally but really appreciated the kind gesture. Hope to go Mousin' with the 2 of them this Summer.

Hopefully in 2020, my most memorable moment, on my favorite flyfishing board, will be when I can click on a LIKE button.

My most memorable was annual fall trip that involved was hiking up small water chasing steelhead with my brother. Was bittersweet- the fishing & hiking was fantastic- but it was the first fall trip that my son couldn’t make it (1st year in college) & my dad also couldn’t make it because of heath issues...

Mine would have to be this pure-strain Rio Grande cutthroat double from a high lake in southern Colorado. Mine is on the left and I landed it (and several others) with a Kabuto 3wt.

Fishing with my son in southern Colorado last July. He caught his first wild brown and about twenty others to boot.

I have 2 for 2019....the first one is a bit heavy. This photo was taken in early March and was the first stream Smallmouth of the season....I was just getting back to feeling a sense of normalcy after being furloughed without pay, my youngest have a month long illness, and my wife having a miscarriage ( all within the month of Jan.). I remember thinking that this cloud of depression would never leave me and that fishing by myself would be the worst thing for my mental state, as I would be lost in my thoughts and ruminate over them. My wife urged me to go this day and I'm glad I did...not because of the fish although it did make the day better:) but I consider this day the one where I began to heal and spend a lot of time talking to God.

The second one has to be the COLD but unforgettable November float me and a buddy went on. We found a deep run that had some chunky Smallies!

but if sitting around in the trout pre-season, catching up with old friends, enjoying bourbon, beer, cigars, and steaks, casting world-class fly rods, and a chance encounter with a very drunk lady on a horse isn't quite what you had in mind when asking for a favorite "fishing pic", then here is another:

probably my favorite spot to fish on the planet.

When I started this thread I figured at best I'd get a couple photos of fat trout and a few pretty stream-side views. I'll have to admit that I've been very happily surprised at all the family & friend photos with the heartwarming attached stories. Thank you everyone, for taking the time to share your 2019 fishing memories!

To quote Thelma from the old TV show, Night Court … "I laughed, I cried, it became a part of me"!

Pretty easy for me - we had a family vacation in Costa Rica last summer. My oldest is 18 and youngest is almost 16, so I know the math on how much longer the four of us will be vacationing together. Best week of the year, and I got skunked on the fly rod! But my youngest (my mini-me) caught a yellowfin tuna trolling, and then went right ahead and had some of the freshest sushi possible!

Probably this brookie. More about the perfect day though then the fish itself. I was working 60-80hr weeks at the time, and had a rare day entirely off. It was the perfect early fall day in the mountains, with a pleasant hike up to the lake. I didn’t catch any other fish that day, yet it was worth it!

My most memorable moment in 2019 was catching this arctic char at an alpine lake in North-Eastern Italy. It was my third time there and I was finally able to get one. They are not easily caught so I had to use a streamer on a sinking line after trying dries and wets at first. I was so satisfied I could have gone home right after that.
