So far it's the Cabela's prime for me. Which I love. I'm looking for others, not that I need it.

My slowest is a James Green 8' 4wt. The local TU Chapter (KIAP-TU-WISH) is going to have an Open House at the Rush River Brewery on September 4th, I'll try to bring that one along if you want to cast it.

My Lami Honey 7' 3wt is pretty slow too. Slower than the 7'6" 4wt (which I also have).

I have a Lami Honey 6'6" 3wt blank that I haven't built up yet, but that could wind up being my slowest.

I'm going to have to agree with the Lami Honey 7/3. My CGR 6'2"/ 2wt is slow, but the Lami is slower, and I wouldn't give it up.

My 8 piece 2/3 weight rod I bought from Black Bear Flyfishing several years ago is the slowest rod I own. A 6' 6" South Fork 2 weight built on a Lamiglas blank is definitely the slowest rod I have ever cast. Another super slow rod was a rod that Tom (jgestar) brought to one of the Texas claves several years ago. I can't remember if it was an Actionrod or an Actionglas, but it was 8 1/2 feet long, heavy, super slow, and would cast almost the entire fly line. I certainly don't think the casting distance was due to any skill on my part, but rather due to the mass of the rod.

Studio Thin Line 7'4" 2/3, followed closely by the 4wt version (an inch longer, IIRC). I love casting the 2/3 wt rod! You could make a pot of coffee and check your phone for messages between the back and forward casts, but it is so very sweet. Perfect for "pretty fishing."

Japanese glass is in a class all its own and they are definitely an acquired taste.

Other rods that are slow but a bit more approachable:

Tycoon Tackle (McFarland produced) 8' 5wt and some other specialty rods that Mike has produced. His Vintage series graphite rods are slower than most glass but have a better recovery, and if you want a 9' rod that is as slow as glass, this is the rod.
Barclay 7'10" 5wt (original amber series)
The Cabela's Prime is also really slow.

Some of the cheap, Chinese blanks are slow, but it's hard to predict.

This thread made me think of the Hardy Perfection (black glass made in the mid 2000s). So I looked it up and found this thread from 12 years ago with a bunch of similar info:

Is a rod that was “modern” then now “vintage”?

Interesting James green keeps coming up. Driftless, I can't make it. Thanks though. I'm planning on slowing down on work this winter, so I'll probably start showing up at those things. Including fly tying night and lunds.

I fear my next step in boo. Frankly, a short slow boo rods makes sense to own. You know, I really only need one..

Today I received my 8' 3 wt, 3 piece rod from Kabuto. It is the "slowest/softest" rod I own (any material, any builder).

Hardy Aln, so slow I ended up selling in favor of my 6’3” norie flex tailor. Extra length and butter than the Aln, IMO.

My slowest is my 71/2' Hardy Perfection 3 piece 4wt, it feels a lot like a Hardy Marvel I once owned, a lovely rod for those calm days on the water.
The next would by my Injuin 6'6" 3 piece 3wt just a lovely creek rod, for those calm days on the water.
After that I have a 71/2' 3piece RK Bolt 4 wt which seems to handle a 3 weight just as well and is a lovely rod for those calm days on the water.
They are all spectacular with my silk fly lines or Wulff Triangle Taper lines under the right conditions which I actually consider the best and most pleasant days to be on the water.
But those days are not everyday though.
Of course I can't compare them with some of the other rods mentioned because I have not fished or cast them.

Depending on which generation of Lamiglas Honey Blanks you have, it may be faster than the other two. I have a few of each of the 7 ft and 7 1/2 ft Lamis (2 pc, 3 pc, and 6 pc) and my 6 1/2 ft rod (6 pc) is faster than either of the others. In fact I use a 5 wt line when fishing it while I use a 4 wt line on the 7 ft and 7 1/2 ft rods.

If you are receptive to vintage rods, my favorite and slowest rod in that category is a Garcia S 636, 7' 3" for 6 wt...my favorite for throwing warmwater poppers from a kayak. It has bigger siblings Garcia S 637, 8', for 6/7 wt, and a Garcia S 638, 8'6", for 7 wt...although the 8'6" rod does get a bit "loose" if you don't pay attention. All are very soft and slow. As I mentioned, they are frequently my "go to" rods for warmwater fishing.

My two slowest are my Dwight Lyons 8ft 5wt and 7.5ft 4/5 wt. Both are Lamiglas-made blanks that were tapered to Mr. Lyons’ proprietary specifications.

I'm not sure where to draw the line between modern and vintage but the Winston Retros are fairly slow and the Winston green Stalker, 8' 4wt., is buggy whip slow. The slowest rod I own is a 7'9 4wt McFarland from the first series of Spruce Creek rods.

Donny, all my Lamis are newer 2 piece, tip over butt rods. They get faster as length and line wt increase.

I’ll be curious to hear how you assess that 6’6” Lami blank when you build it up.
