Trimming my list to just one rod in each the 3, 4, and 5 wts, and not chosing a material more than once gives me this list.

3wt - "Norie Like" 6'9" glass

4wt - Sage 490 LL graphite

5wt - Granger Champion 8642 bamboo

The Sage 490 LL is my favorite rod for my favorite type of fishing, but hasn't left the case this year. There's more fishing with 6-8wts down here where the trout don't grow. The little glass rod has caught some bluegill and bass, though.

Great thread & lots of NICE rods! I'll try not to "˜cheat' but I will say there are rods not listed that I really enjoy fishing, I just don't get them out as much/pick them as often:
3 wt:
Bamboo & Fiberglass: (none)
Graphite: South Branch 8'6"

5WT:
Fiberglass: McFarland Spruce Creek 805-3, SA System 5
Graphite: Sage LL 865-3

6WT:
Fiberglass: Steffen 8'6" 5/6, Fenwick 70-4

3wt
Glass: Kenney 8'1" 3pc (813); McFarland 7' 3pc (brown blem blank ... when I get around to building it, I think it will be a go to shorter 3wt for smaller waters)
Graphite: Scott G 8'8" 3pc (883/3)

4wt
Glass: Steffen 8' 3/4wt (have in 3pc & 4pc ... fish it mostly as a 4wt, but works fine with DT3 too); Kenney 7'9" 3pc (794) ... hard time choosing between the Steffen & the Kenney
Graphite: Scott G 8'8" 3pc (884/3); Scott G 8' 3pc (804/3); Fisher Original 8' 4pc (labeled 4wt, more of a 3/4 ... mostly fish it as 4wt, but great with DT3 too); Fisher Original 9' 4pc 4/5wt (mostly fish this rod with DT4, but does fine with WF5 too); Fenwick HMG 7' 2pc (yes, Aurelio, I couldn't stand it and picked up another one) ... hard time choosing

5wt
Glass: Kenney 8'3" 3pc (835 ... great with WF5 or DT4, but fish it mostly as a 5wt); Steffen 8' 4/5wt 4pc (great as 5wt or 4wt, but fish it as 5wt mostly); McFarland 8' 4pc (brown blank) ... hard time choosing ... my Steffen 8'6" 5/6wt 4pc is also a great 5wt, even though I generally prefer to fish it as a 6wt
Graphite: Scott G 8'8" 3pc (885/3); Lamiglas Certified Pro 9' 4pc; Fenwick HMG 9' 2pc; Orvis Henry's Fork (Rocky Mountain version) 8'6" 2pc

Gearboy did have a 4 wt that I am happy to now have (evidently his lack of 4 wt lines was to my benefit); a Bill Cary built tobacco glass 7'4" rod.

My go-to rods:

3wt:
glass - 6'3" Margiotta built Kettle Creek riffle
graph - none
grass - none

4wt:
glass - 7' TL Johnson SLG (was the Cary rod til I got this one)
graph - 8'6" TL Johnson Project Healing Waters Rod (Emerger 2 blank)
grass - none

5wt:
glass - 8' Fenwick FF79 (recently acquired FF75 may take this spot)
graph - 9' Scott G905/4
grass - 7'6" Templin/Gooch built 2/2

6wt:
glass - 7' Fenwick FF70-4, on the long side it will probably be the Fenwick FL102-6 blank I just built
graph - none
grass - 8'6" South Bend 346

Might as well add my favorites too! 3 WEIGHT: 9' Scott G graphite 4 WEIGHT: 8' Diamondglass or 7'6" Orvis Midge (cane) 5 WEIGHT: 8' Steffen 5/6 or 8' McFarland Spruce Creek or 8' Orvis 4 1/8 oz. Battenkill (cane) 6 WEIGHT: 8"6" Steffen 5/6 or 9' Winston glass or 9' 4 piece Scott G graphite. One thing I noticed with surprise this year regarding one of my favorite rods for many years, a Scott G graphite 8'4" 5 wt. is that when I cast it alongside the Steffen 5/6 I felt the Steffen glass rod was clearly superior. Prior to this I would have classed the Scott as one which would be the one rod I'd keep if I could only own one flyrod; the Steffen glass rod has changed my mind though!

3wt [3/4]
Bamboo: Mike Brooks 3734
Glass: miss my Diamonglass and the Winston Retro both 7' 3pc. But, I have the Brooks rod!

4wt
Glass: Hardy Perfection 7'6" 3pc for streams. Diamondglass 8'6" 3pc for lakes/pontoon.
Bamboo: Mike Brooks 7'6" [Payne 100] or Orvis 7/4 3pc
Graphite: Orvis 7/11 8' 2pc

5wt
Bamboo: Dave Dozer 8' 2pc, Dwight Lyons 8' 3pc, Leonard Model 50, and the Lew Parks [Dickerson] 8' 3pc when I want to really slow down!
Glass: Dwight Lyons 8' 3pc, McFarland 8'6 3pc
Graphite: 0

6wt
Bamboo: the Leonard Model 50 can handle a WF 6 just fine.
Glass: McFarland 8'6" 3pc
Graphite: Bob Meizer Highlander Spey rod 12'6"

7wt
Glass: Berkley Parametric 8'6" 2pc
Bamboo: 0
Graphite: CND Solstice Spey rod 14'3"

3wt:
graphite: Echo Classic 7'6" ... never felt the need to get anything else since this doesn't get used all that much anyway ... nice rod though
glass: 0
bamboo: 0

4wt:
graphite: 0
glass: 0 (I do sense either one of the older Diamondglass or a Steffen in an 8' filling this void in the future)
bamboo: 0

5wt:
graphite: Redington CT (great fishing rod---for graphite)
glass: 7'9" Wonderod (great fishing rod, not the most fun rod to cast)
bamboo: Pope built Payne 102h (just doesn't get used much anymore ... reason coming next)

And, since it seems we're expanding on the original 3-5wts, I'd hate to disappoint ...

6wt:
graphite: Fenwick HMG 8' (super light rod with some serious backbone---fun to cast too)
glass: Steffen Bros. 8' 5/6 3pc (my most used rod by far ... mainly for trout, but also for smallies & carp on occasion ... damn, I love this rod)
bamboo: 0

7wt:
graphite: 10' Echo Classic (labelled as a 6wt, but I usually fish it with a 7 ... great nymphing rod and wonderful surf rod with a 265gr shooting head)
glass: Fenwick FF 857 (narrowly edges out the FF807, just a great all around rod ... fun steelhead stick)
bamboo: 0

8wt and above are all graphite, with the following exceptions ...

Fenwick FF909 (added a 5" fighting butt and made this into a mini-switch ... great for throwing a 300gr skagit head with 10' versileaders and a lightly weighted 3" streamer)

SA System 12 ("THE EQUALIZER" haven't even cast this rod yet, but once I redo the guides, it'll make a great rod for trolling flies for tuna ... it's an absolute beast)

Future: I see on of the Steffen Bros 8'3" or 8'6" 8/9wt in my future ... that'd be the perfect winter steelhead rod, not to mention a fun jetty rod.

ok, let's see what we can do for pictures ... I think I've got a few ...

Though I'd update my list of "go-to" rods.

3 wt
Cane: none
Glass: Winston Retro 6'6"
Graph: Winston DL4 8'

4 wt
Cane: Summers 7'6" #260
Glass: Kabuto 7'6", T&T Heirloom 8', Winston Stalker 8'
Graph: Winston DL4 8'6"

5 wt
Cane: Winston 8'
Glass: Orvis GE 7'6", Scott F75 7'6", Fisher (Lyons custom) 8'
Graph: Winston DL4 8'6"

6 wt
Cane: none
Glass: Steffen 8'3"

Yes, I cheated on the 4 and 5 wt glass. And yes, I have a thing for Winston DL4s.

Just what sees the most use these days, I'm a little old school:

3wt
Graphite: TFO Finesse, probably the reason I don't own a 3wt in glass or 'boo. Soft, smooth and four pieces.
Glass:
Boo:

4wt:
Huh? Does it count if I have a 4DT line?

5 wt:
Glass: Sceptre 7, 7.5, or 8 depending; all fish well with a 5 DT or a T-130. Fenwick FF 755.
Graphite: Several, nothing distinguished.

Graphite: Winston IM6 8' 6" 3 pc (Great all around graphite rod)

3wt Glass: Kenney 7'3" 3pc (on order)
Graphite: None. Recently sold a Scott G773-3 w/ NiAg fittings. A great rod but I rarely used it.
Cane: None

4wt Glass: Hardy JET 7'0" 2 pc Fisher blank. Rated as a 5wt but casts better with a 4wt line to my taste.
Graphite: Elkhorn 8' 6" 7pc. Backup rod but works quite well, esp. considering the cost and number of pieces.
Cane: None

5wt Glass: Kenney 8'3" 3pc 5wt
prototype or Early Winston/Fisher blank wrapped by G Bracket in 1998 or W. Powell DF-75 7'6" 5wt or
Lamiglas FS9646 blank tweaked and wrapped by Larry K or Hardy JET with a 5wt if I don't need to cast too far (and who does with a 5wt).
Graphite: Scott G905/4 9'0" 4pc, Telluride era.
Cane: Orvis 7'6" 2pc Far & Fine 3 7/8 oz.

6wt Glass: Scott F81 8'0" 2pc.
Graphite: None rated as 6wt but use the Scott G957-4 9'6" 4 pc. It's rated and works well as a 7wt, but I use it with a 6wt for heavier flies or working further out.
Cane: None

7wt Glass: L Kenney prototype 8'3" 3pc
Graphite: Scott G957-4 9'6" 4pc. Very versatile rod and easy to carry.
Cane: None. Had an Orvis "99" 8'6" 2pc. Sold it when bamboo rod prices were depressed and have lived to regret it.

Beyond 7wt, I also have a Lamiglas FF909 9'0" 9wt blank tweaked and wrapped by Larry as well as a couple of graphite 8wts.

3 wt.: Glass: 7' 6" 6 pc. Axisco Airrite is my usual go to rod, but in more confined areas I'll use a Diamondglass 7' 3pc.
Graphite: G. Loomis Metolious Streamdance 8' 3 piece.

4 wt.: Glass: Go to rod is Diamondglass 8' 2 piece.
Graphite: Winston WT 8' 3 piece

5 wt.: Glass: Cabela's CGR 7' 2 piece

6 wt.: Glass: Hardy JET or Hardy Fibalite Perfection - pretty much interchangeable, both in 8' 2 piece. In more cramped quarters, would
choose between Berkley Curt Gowdy Parametric 6' 3" or Phillipson Royal Wand 6'.

Bob,

Step back from the keyboard, grab a paper bag, and breath a bit. Let's chill on the graphite bashing. It's not the material so much as how it is used.
