Nice. I thought that looked like the Alberta rockies. I went to high school and university in Alberta (Edmonton). Most of my trout fishing was around Caroline and Rocky Mountain House, and also the Bow River. I am thinking you live further south.

Andrew.

These pics many of you shared are fantastic!
As it's cold and frozen here, scrolling thru such colorful pictures is really. Treat!

Is this south in the Ouchitas or north in green country near Tulsa?

Amazing looking water ...

Les

These streams are in the Kiamichi mountains of southeastern Oklahoma. There are some really good streams in the Ozark region of NE Oklahoma as well but I rarely get to fish up there anymore as I live in central Texas. Lot's of good water in eastern Oklahoma and western Arkansas.

I concur with Les, those are some great looking waters in OK. I will actually be moving to TX within a month so I have been more aware of post showing potential areas to fish in and around the state.

Here are a few pictures from the west slope of the Cascades in Oregon near Mt. Hood. Taken with my phone so sorry about the quality.

That is the headwaters of the Old Man, long walk at the moment as this June's flooding raised holy hell with the roads.

I live about an hour south of Calgary along the foothills.

If the floods did not damage the river too bad, then the walk probably keeps the fishing pressure down.

I am guessing you are from around High River or maybe a little further south and west. I still have some friends in Calgary (and elsewhere in Alberta), and I also work with a couple colleagues in our company's Calgary office.

Andrew.

The only thing that would make this thread better would be a little background music. Make mine banjo, but to each his own.

What's the fruit?

Edible?

(Amazing what can grow in an area that receives precipitation.)

Swellcat,
They are salmonberries and are very edible. More tart than sweet and great on top of instant oatmeal. Unfortunately, they don't travel well. Once I picked a small container full and attempted to bring them home for the family but they were mush in about 30 minutes. Gotta pick 'em and eat 'em.

Or maybe ferment them. . . and how about jelly?

And conversely, commercial varieties cultivated for shipping characteristics don't necessarily eat well. Shelf-stability isn't flavour.

Wild edibles can be an excellent element of fishing forays, chances to experience and reconnect with the natural world.

Well-done.

Another Massachusetts fisherman here. We have the Swift, Nissitissitt, and Squanacook, that are exceptional small stream fisheries. Just to name a few.

I've fished the Oldman in Alberta, and sections would qualify by Western standards as small stream as well it's feeder streams. The Cutthroat fishing is awesome there.

I plan on fishing the Niss and/or Squanacook river tomorrow morning with my dad to celebrate his birthday together. I will take some pics to share. For now, here's the Quinnie

I love the smaller waters of New England and am pretty sure I would love them anywhere if they can support trout:)

I picked up a Scott F601/3 from Lugan a couple weeks back, took it to VA for a couple days and gave it a workout.

Nice catch Marty !

As I am a "small stream bum" myself and have spent the better part of the past three weeks on the road fishing in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast and hearing about many rattlesnake stories (and telling my own), this is a good time to bring up the topic of personal safety astream. After stepping right over a coiled rattlesnake two summers ago in PA on one of the hottest days of the year (for some unknown reason it did not strike me but easily could have) I searched for the best rattlesnake guards that I could find. Once you are in the water it is the safest place to be, but it is getting to and from the streams from established trails (if any) is where you are likely to encounter a problem. These are about $150 a pair (I wrap right them right around my hip waders or pants if wet wading), but how much do you value your life and limbs ? Once you get to the water you can easily un-zip these and just toss them into your pack ... same for getting out of the water at the end of the day ... they only take a few seconds to zip on:

I took this one today...and then my phone promptly died. :)

Those are salmonberries next to the rod. They came on a bit early this year. Kind of tart, but delicious.
