This was inspired by a post by Galleta Loco on another thread.

Which fly rods do you like so much that you have more than one of?
(Not just the same brand ... but the same brand, length, line wt, etc).
In case it breaks (heaven forbid!) you have at least one more just like it.

I'll start. Hi, my name is GB and I have 3 Phillipson MF70's (7ft, 5/6wt).

Same model, same everything. One has different colored thread, but other than that they're all identical. I searched long & hard for the first one. When the others came along (& were in better condition!), I couldn't help but snatch them up. Logical? Probably not. But love & art do not need to make sense.

Eight different models of 6.5ft Wright & McGill/Eagle Claw Featherlights (clustered in center) and believe it or not there are a few more variations of this rod I don't have (yet). I like the 6.5fters best but I also have them in 5.5ft (2), 6ft, 7ft (2), 8ft varieties too w/ the 6ft rod as my next favorite.

My "go to" rod. .. Fenwick yellow glass FL96-6. I have a FL96-6, a Grizzly-Fenwick FL962 (very similar rod, could well be the same taper), and a FL96-6 blank (new / never built, with the original $10.50 price sticker still on it). In addition, my son has a FL96-6, and my Dad has at least one FL96-6.

I'm still shooting for one of everything. . . before i start the two of everything collection :)

That started out as a "tongue in cheek" smartass comment ( sorry for it now.) But when i think about it. . . it's true for me. I would try a tweeked version of my favorites ( i.e. Steffan 5/6 wt 8'3" or Macfarland 480-3) before i would have another "same" one at the "same" time. When they stop making them i'll get the next version or something close. . . if not original. . . off of an auction site. . . after research ( starting here of course.) :D

IMHO There is no one perfect state of development.

It's cold and dark here now ( -37 F and 3+ hrs of sunlight). . . i'm throwing another log in the stove. . . and start surfing again. ;)

There was a point in time that I had three Thomas and Thomas Special Dry Fly 8ft 4wts stored away which is the only rod of any material I felt the need to have a back up of. I decided to share the wealth and sold two of them. At this point in time I would like to downsize to a total of three rods. Yep three rods. One small stream, one larger stream and one salt water rod. Ain't going to happen, but that is my goal.

Fenwick FF75, FF79, and FF806. While I enjoy a bunch of different rods, these are my safety net. I enjoy them and don't want to be without should a catastrophe happen.

I have multiples of the Norie-like blanks, but just because they're cheap enough I can experiment with the build, not because I couldn't live without one. I've got the first coat of finish drying on the third one I've wrapped, although only the second in the four piece configuration. I also have a spare SPG780 blank sitting around for much the same reason, although I'd likely ferrule it as a two or four piece just to avoid having a duplicate.

2 fenwick hmg 704's , 2 winston 379 LT's , would like to get rid of 1 LT and try to get another 6'6" epoxite like a GE or Leonard to go with my reg. midge or maybe another 6'6" scott, this time a custum ... aurelio

Just got out again with my Steffen 4/5 wt and wow ...

This February I have a chance to learn to build a rod and I am thinking of getting a blank from Mark (if available) for my first build. Plan on duplicating my 4/5 wt because I love it so much. Plus, allows others to swing that rod without fear of damage etc ...

I figure since you build a first rod only once (duh), might as well use a blank that you will fish for a long time. (beginner flaws and all - part of the mojo) ...

I have two Berkley PM 8.5 7wts. Methinks that is all I have intentionally duplicated.
Not long ago I had two 3pc PM 8fters, but I sold one.

No dupes in glass. I do have 2 Cabela's Three Forks 7'6" 3 wts. They often went on sale, and with some coupon of $XX off with $XX spent, I added one as insurance for less than shipping would be on a warrantied rod, back in the day when it was a go-to rod for smaller water. Glad I did; the one hiding in the car has been pressed into service a few times.

The ones I've sort of kept my eyes open recently for a back-up are all glass, or course.

Over the past year or two, i've sold off duplicates. I have too many nice rods in the same category that don't get the attention they deserve already. Nonetheless, i'll list those i've felt the need to gather duplicates for:

I have 2 - 8'6" 4wt winston glass and 2- 8'6" 6 wt winstons. Both dupes were gotten just in case of disaster.

2 Fenwick FF806, only because they are still a bargain.

One nice thing about owning a rod made by a company like Scott or T&T, is that if a piece breaks they can easily make you another one. I bought a Scott G908 and while casting it in the yard the mid section broke. Sent the piece back to Scott and within 3 weeks had a new section, same exact wraps and serial number as the original. IMO, there's no need to own a duplicate of a rod from a company still in biz.
