There is a lot of talk on smaller glass, whats the largest you fish, I normally fish smaller rods but for some reason I picked up a 9ft 4pc I'm thinking 7/8 but maybe larger. Not sure what I'll use it for. Lets see what you fish!

9' Sceptre (7, 8, or 9 weight) that I've had since the late 1970s. Not often though. I'm more likely to use graphite or a shorter 'glass rod for 8 weight these days.

My heaviest rod is an Actionglass rod for a #9. But ... it is only 7 1/2 ft long and works well from my kayak. I fish it with an 8 wt line and it throws my salt water stuff pretty well. I do not do much salt water fly fishing, mind you. If I did a lot of it, I'd probably get a nice long fast graphite rod.

Winston 9' 7 wt Loomis rolled IM6 but I rarely get to fish it. I bought it for trips to the big rivers out west but it's been a few years since that's happened. I have a McFarland 7'9" 7wt Juniata that I do fish often, searching for big trout with big streamers. I fish it with a 6WF sink tip line. It's great for medium, tree and brush lined streams and for hauling trout upstream. Also a nice rod for smallies.

I like to fish these 9' glass rods.

This first one is a 9' 10wt built with on a Fisher blank for Salmon and heavy Winter river conditions.
Image

This one is an SF Winston 9' 10wt, I use for SF Bay stripers and the surf, also a great Salmon rod.
Image

This is an SF Winston 9' 9/10wt for Steelhead, an amazing rod.

Not glass, but still a rod I use constantly, an older graphite rod circa 1978, an SF Winston 9' 9/10wt. This rod is also very special to me.

I also fish other and larger rods than these, but these are loaded with great JUJU and remain in the rod use rotation. Respectfully rvreclus

well, just picked up a 12wt SA glass rod from a member here for Tuna to go with my 12wt Loomis that has already had it's cherry popped on tuna last summer (that rod was also used for Roosters by the owner before me ... other than that, I use primarily 7 & 8wts for my heavier stuff & 6wts for the vast majority of my trout fishing.

Parametric 9'3 #8/9 (carp plan this year as its limber, maybe light pike)
Fenwick ff106 #9/10 (pike)
SA system 8 - still working this one out, light salt so far eg sea bass, great for casting a T200.

Love to get my hands on a SA10/ SA11 or similar to toss a half chicken fly and T400 for big pike on big waters

JP Ross 8 wt. graphite (very nice rod) for steelhead, inshore ocean fishing
Sceptre 9' for steelhead, carp, small cars
FlyLogic 8wt. graphite (heck of a casting machine), but might sell it - don't need three big rods.

Way back when I first started flyfishing I owned a 9'0" 2 piece Browning Silaflex pared with either a Medalist 1495-1/2 or a 1498, I can't remember which. I wish I still had it! I fished that rig in fresh and salt and among other things I foul hooked a seagull off a jetty once. Best catch of THAT day!

Today the biggest glass I own and fish is an 8'6" 3pc 6wt Fenwick Feralite from the early 60's that I bought on eBay , matched with a fully pimped 1494 Medalist from 1959 that I also snagged on eBay . Excluding the "pimping" the entire outfit cost me about $120.

I also JUST added a 8'6" 3pc 5wt McFarland Spruce Creek to my quiver that due to my preference for really small stream fishing in the dead of winter, hasn't yet been christened! I'll be taking care of that little problem in a week!

I really have no issues with big glass, heck I fish a 9'6" 8wt Leonard but I have a decent amount of graphite in the 9 foot range so I haven't pursued anything longer that 8'6" ...

... yet!

I've got a 9' 9 wt. graphite (Redington) for salt. Haven't used it much; last redfish trip (3 years ago now?), took an 8 wt. But I still plan to use the System 9 I've got in the corner.

The largest fiberglass rod I have is a Winston 8'6" 7 weight rod, dubbed by Mr. Morgan, the "Unity with the Universe " rod. A great rod to fish.

I'm a trout fisherman and don't own any rods above a 6 wt. But it may be difficult to resist Morgan's "Unity with the Universe."

Hmm.. . there is a local fall salmon run about 1 1/2 hrs away. You, guys, think this rod might work for them?

Ha small cars. Nice. I'm a small stream trout guy as well. This is my first big rod, by big I mean 8 plus weight. I couldn't resist now I have find a fish to handle this rod.

My heaviest glass rods are an 8'6" nine weight Phillipson, a 9' 8/9 weight Lamiglas S-Glass, and a 9' eight weight Winston (Montana) The Winston is the heaviest of the three at 4 7/8 ounces. The Phillipson weighs 4 3/8 ounces and the Lamiglas weighs 3 7/8 ounces. I use these rods for pacific salmon fishing.

I also have three Winston graphite 9' nine weight rods. Two of them are SF Winstons and the other is an XTR5.

At one time I had a couple of ten weight graphite rods but I never used them so I sold them. I would get cabin fever and think about fishing for big chinook so I'd gear up for them. But when I got to the salmon stream and saw all the people I'd take out a six weight instead and go up stream and fish for rainbows all by myself.

My 9ft FF98 Fenwick is the biggest that I fish often. Have a 9ft Garcia that weighs 7oz, I used to use it a lot with shooting heads. Have a 9'1" System 10, has not yet got a lot of use, it will.

As for glass I use a 8'9' American for 7/8/9 wt. As for graphite 10' 6wt and a 12'3' 8wt spey rod. I did also have a 10' 3wt that was my brothers and it was awsome but had to give it back.

As for a fiberglass flyrod,  it would be a 10 wt. Fenwick.
