Sent vs Outbox Messages?

I was wondering if someone could tell me the difference between Sent and Outgoing messages? Most of messages that I know for a fact were received are sitting in the Outbox folder. But I have 3 messages that I sent yesterday in response to someone trying to buy something in the classifieds that are just sitting in Sent by themselves. I’m just not sure if they were actually sent/received. As is, it doesn’t appear so?

A message sits in your Outbox until the recipient reads the message via the forum software. Only then will the message move to the Sent folder.

The default forum setting also sends an email copy of the message to the recipient. Quite likely your messages have been seen offline, even though the PM remains in your Outbox.

To make things more confusing, the recipient can directly reply to your PM via that email. Those direct reply messages don't get saved in the forum system. Please use the message system on forum, if possible. The PM via email option is not always reliable.
