Dad’s rod

So I’ve been away from the forum for awhile as my father was ill and then passed away. It was a terrible process that took months and it is easier to write about semi anonymously online than in person.

The glass rod angle on this is that before his knees were too shot to wade and climb down into them, my father loved fishing small streams for brook trout.

This was his favorite rod, built on a fenwick ff605 blank.

Sorry to hear about your dad.
Seems your photo didn't come through - we'd like to see it.

For some reason I’m not getting the usual way to add images when I try to reply.

Condolences on your Dad’s passing. Good that you have the rod he loved to use - every time you use it I hope it brings back wonderful memories you shared with him.

I hope you post pictures of the rod. The posting procedure linked in Trev’s post is pretty easy, and Tom’s directions do a good job of removing first-time user anxiety. My FF605 is a terrific brookie rod, factory-built with cap-and-ring on a cork real seat, making it feel and fish really light. I’d be very interested to see what an individual builder and brookie aficionado did with it.

Thanks for showing - tastefully done - worth restoring, and especially should take it fishing.

I am sorry to hear of you father's passing, it is a hard thing to loose a parent.

The rod is a nice example of a custom build from that time period, and you should keep to remember him, and fish it in his memory at times. That blank makes a great fly or spin rod. Is it built as one or the other, or is it a fly/spin?

John

It built for fly casting. It is very nice at close range with a six weight line.

I would clean it up as best you can, leave it as is and remember your Dad every time you pick it up and fish it. Fish it as is, it will only be "just like his rod" once. If you look hard enough or put a WTB in the classifieds you can likely find another FL 72 to make your own and fish with.
