I got my hands on a Thunderbird 1458 1/2 (8 ½ foot) fly rod, I think it was made by H & I but not sure, and I want to give it to a friend who want to get into fly fishing, but I want to be able to let him know what Wt. line he should get. Anyone knows what wt. fly line it would take, thank you.

I'm going to try a 6 & 7 wt. lines on it tomorrow but I wanted to be sure as he will just be starting out.

A 7 weight is a good starting point. Make sure the ferrules are clean.
