I’ve been dipping in and out of the forum for a few months now and loving it! Thought I might introduce myself properly, at last. I read a post about new folk not replying after getting info but couldn’t respond in that particular part of the forum. Anyway here goes ! As the name suggests I’m from Argyll in Scotland and after a time away from fly fishing mainly due to raising a family, I’m back as keen as ever. On restarting I discovered most of my gear is now considered vintage. I’ve been slowly picking up items of tackle that I wanted as a boy but couldn’t afford. This time round my enjoyment from the gentle art is not just about catching brown trout and getting away to beautiful places, but also the joy of reusing good , functional and largely inexpensive tackle.
I’m at the start of my journey but have acquired a few glass fibre fly rods - a Diawa and an older Sportex that I am having great fun with. I’ve also picked up some solid glass vintage spinning rods for very little and am loving them also- especially teamed up with vintage Mitchell reels. Fly reels have very quickly become a bit of an obsession

. I always used simple , cheap and reliable BFR rim fly reels and I’ve added to what I had in various sizes - 95, 75, 55 - still great performers in my opinion and no need to worry about the odd bump etc. With 3 kids I’m on a limited budget but I have acquired the following reels that I have been very happy with generally- Diawa 720, Roddy 32, DAM quick fly, a Sharpes ‘The Gordon’, and another Diawa , an F 210. I’ve tried to source the best condition models I can find and think I’ve done ok with the budget I have. Anyway it’s going to be a long close season I feel but this new passion is helping. I’m truly grateful for the information and expertise on this forum and who knows in future I might be able to add something! Thanks and tight lines!
