I'm stoked to have found this site. I've been fishing my Fenwicks all over the Sierra but until now, haven't found anyone with my passion for glass. This is just too cool.

Greetings! Glass Fly Fishers:

I found this site while researching a Fenwick FF605-2 rod I purchased a couple of years or so ago and I found this site. I read a few post and realized I had found a valuable source of first hand information - so here I am. I'll be doing more reading than posting for awhile and I look forward to refreshing my memories of first rods of glass when I was farm boy chasing wild " brookies ". So happy I found this site.

Larry

New member from South Carolina.

It is very refreshing to find a site like this. Fishing has become a market driven hobby for so many folks that the true enjoyment of fishing is being forgotten.

Great site and I hope to bring a little something to the forums when I can-although I feel certain I will have more questions than answers.

I think I may have made a big mistake in coming here. It all started with an innocent question on another forum, "Is there a 5wt out there with the same feel/action as my Winston TMF." A kindly member of that forum pointed me here. After reading 181 pages + of people raving about glass, I think I'm in trouble.

I've fished my whole life (41 of 44 years) but have been exclusively fly fishing for the past 13. My bride encourages my fly fishing habit as I'm not into motorcycles (a man's got to know his limitations, I rolled an SUV), nor cars (I barely know how to put gas into my 1998 Subaru). I have a great/rewarding job and as I often tell young people, "there are many jobs which will feed your body well but starve your soul. Find a job which feeds your soul." If I had the means, I would fish from sun up to sun down as it truly feeds the soul.

Anyhow, I'm new to glass, and thanks in advance for the advice and tolerating "new guy glass questions"

Cletus welcome to FFR. Nicely said, and good advice. You will find that the members here not only tolerate, but are happy to answer "new guy glass questions", so post away.

Andrew.

Hi Dave;

I was born in a little town that's about thirty five or so miles ENE of Utica, NY. I'm about 9 miles from the Adirondack State Park - "the Blue Line" - and I actually live in the foothills of the Adirondacks. The township is Salisbury.

Very good Larry. Welcome aboard. I'm fond of brookies too and grew up in South Central PA. Cheers, Dave

Just thought I'd introduce myself here. My name is Jay. I own several glass rods- vintage and a newer W&M Eagle Claw Featherlight. I need some help identifying an old one that I have with no label on it. This same rod needs a facelift, and I'm hoping to get some advice on how to go about that. It was given to me and I have no idea what may have happened to it, but it's in a strange condition- bubbly finish ... maybe it was left in a hot attic for a long time. Who knows?

Anyway, Howard "Cofisher" told me about this site almost three years ago and I'm just now finding my way here.

I also write a blog called "The Naturalist's Angle" that may be of interest.

Glad to be here, and looking forward to learning and contributing.

Since Howard's given you the thumbs up, you're unquestionably welcomed here. Also, glad to see another Featherlight owner joining our ranks, can't be enough of us. :P

I should clarify, my vintage rods are Garcia and the mystery rod I mentioned. My Featherlight is one of the newer generation 8' 5/6 wt rods. I got it about 2 1/2 yrs ago new when they introduced the new and improved Featherlights.

New to the forum and glass. Started with Cabela's CGR's , expanded to St. Croix, Browning, Many Fenwicks, and a Scott. Look forward to the advice and insight from you more experienced glass users. I also have a blog ... http://onafly.blogspot.com/ , where I chase everything I can catch on a fly in the Upper Midwest.

Quite a lot of species there, and the freshwater drum on the masthead is impressive. (An adult revelation for me was discovering Aplodinotus grunniens is a fine, firm-fleshed species, not "trash".)

Thanks,
I've been fly fishing for a while now, but just started glass last year. The intensity of the fight and the strike detection is what I enjoy the most at this point. Also drum are a great option for eating and in my small part of the world are extremely abundant and a great time on a glass rod.

New to the forum. I have been interested in buying some vintage glass rods for some old Medalist reels and happened across this site. Look forward to learning some things here.

Howdy All! New to the forum but have been fishing since I was too young to remember and flyfishing for the last 30 years. Mostly ponds - bass and bluegills on a 4/5 weight. Now interested in small to medium streams using older equipment (fits because this fisher is getting older). Big fan of Gene Hill and Ed Zern and am a longtime member of TU.

Hi all.
My name is Daniel. I'm a 32 year old EMT from Central California. I am lucky enough to live within an hour of 3 great rivers and numerous streams. I was handed down an Old Shakespeare Wonderod a few years back when my Grandpa passed away. I started fishing it on a whim a few years ago and can't keep myself from grabbing it.

Transplanted Sooner coming at you from Indiana. Waves to you all. Thank you all for allowing me to join. I was raised to believe that our naturaul resources are our most important assests we have. Taking care of them is our largest responsibility and teaching future generations is the job of each and everyone of us. So with that said, take a kid fishing and teach them like we were taught at that age. Believe it or not it is truly a great time.

Been lurking for a while, I figure its time to introduce myself. I got interested in glass from following thefiberglassmanifesto. Then I ordered an Eagle Claw from him. Now I'm looking at building my first rod on a Stefan Bros. glass blank. I'm looking forward to contributing, but I'll likely just be asking questions for a while.
