Welcome Mike. I like my CGR 7/8 with a 7DT but if you like yours with a 6 it's all the same. You and I don't cast the same or fish the same waters and flies but we each get to choose what works for us.
Have fun. I think it's a terrific rod for the price.

Welcome Mike. Your 3/4wt should be perfect for the little creeks. The 7/8wt would make a nice rod for smallmouth, or pike fishing on the Delaware.

Not a new guy here, but a few years ago all my posts along with my log in disappeared. Finally managed to get up to 25 posts again, maybe now I can post in the for sale section again.

Howdy from the Texas Hill Country. I'm a retired bass guide ( 22 yrs). Started fly fishing 6 yrs ago when I retired. TFO folks talked me into a glass rod for 'gills and I immediately caught a 7 lb Largemouth. I mainly fish private water or drift rivers with guides. Smallmouth bass are my thing and I may show up anywhere from home to Maine or to Ontario. Looking forward to an education here.

Do you know/fish with Ian Colin James in Ontario? He and I go way back over cats whisker he published in his book.

Hey bulldog

Ian Colin James passed away almost 3 years ago now. He sure is missed in the flyfishing community here.

New member, found the forum looking for info on my first Conolon which I bought many years ago new. Of course in short order you guys convinced me I needed several more fiberglass rods, was into bamboo, well you know the story I have several Conolons now and several other brands on the way. I can't even try them out yet as we lots of snow and ice on our water here. Sad news is I just received my Royal Javelin in the mail and there is now one less out there to collect as it came wrapped in mailers, needless to say it has too many parts now and is going back to seller. Back to the hunt.

Don,

Welcome. I hope to see pictures of some of your Conolon's. It's a shame about the Royal Javelin. I'm always on the lookout for Narmco Conolon rods.

thanks for the news - he had a great sense of humor - it was about a dozen years ago he and I were in regular correspondence.

I am a long time reader/lurker of this forum. I have learned much from and been entertained by what I have read and seen here. I have been a warm water fly fisherman for 10+ years and still learning. My first rods were old Fenwicks. I have had contact with some members here who graciously helped me with my addiction.....thank you. Glass rods and vintage reels are just a ton of fun.

Just wanted to throw out a hello and a thank you for letting me join the forum. My name is Mike and I am an avid fly fisherman from CT. I fly fish all over New England, have been for the past 10 years. Currently I am looking to switch up styles, slow things down and find a new way to enjoy fly fishing and all it has to offer. I think that fishing glass will help me bring a different feel to my game. I appreciate any help I can get from you all on the topic of glass, and look forward to hopefully finding a few glass sticks to play with. If anyone has any questions about fly fishing New England, I have fished most of the best waters several times, and many of the secondary waters ( but they are just as good in most cases) anyway, feel free to ask me any ?'s anytime! Thanks again ~ Mike A

Hello. I just joined the forum today. Actually found it through a google link when searching for information on J Ryall Jr fly reels. I have fished graphite rods for about 30 years and figured I could learn some things about glass rods. Guess I’ll have to search one out and give it a try. I primarily fish Western NC and GSMNP along with the mountains of SC. Glad to be here.
Thanks,
Scott

Welcome, Two Barrels! You're not the only one who appreciates J. Ryall reels. I've never had one, but admired them back in their day, when I couldn't afford one. They just look 'right' for a fly reel.

You've come to the right place to learn about fiberglass rods. Great moniker, by the way.

New to the board, old troutbum from Mid Mich. Amazing how time fly's. Had the pleasure of knowing Art Neumann from Wanigas Rod Shop & TU some, both from his shop and a couple of evenings on the water. I fish with 2 of his glass and 2 of his graphite rods. I'm here to learn more and maybe help others learn more.

Hi all... found this forum when looking into this revival of fiberglass rods... started fly fishing on fiberglass long ago and moved on to graphite when they hit the market, just now wanting to try the new s-glass offerings in fiberglass... just ordered up a Steffen 8' 5/6 after talking with Mark about my intended use... fortunate to have my parents living a stone's throw from the Hat Creek in Northern California, other close by waters include the McCloud River, Upper Sacramento, Fall River, Pitt River and many of the smaller streams most people don't know about... great fishing indeed, but will be moving to the Bozeman, MT area in a few years where the fishing is a bit bigger.

Have learned a lot from the forum about fiberglass, will most likely have more to learn and ask as I wander down this path.

Hello all. I'm Jason and live in Virginia. Still consider myself a neophyte fly angler but have preferred glass rods even back to when I only used spin fishing gear. Look forward to learning more from the forum!

Welcome to the board! Your early experience with fiberglass spin rods is like mine, and likely many here. Love that smooth, controllable loading and unloading!

Just joined this fiberglass fly rod forum. Glad there's an outlet for flyfishers who enjoy fiberglass. I'm a disabled Vietnam vet living in the North Georgia mountains. Pretty good area to fish. I live in Fannin County, the designated "trout capital of Georgia." Mostly fishing the 11 miles of the Toccoa River tailwater from the dam to the Tennessee state line. I built my first fiberglass fly rod in 1958 when I was 9 years old. I joined the military in 1968 and while going through advanced combat training in California I fished with it in the small streams around Placerville, Rock Creek being one of them. I can remember wading in front of Sutter's Mill in Coloma, Ca, where gold was discovered back in 1848, and catching rainbow trout while all the other folks in the river were panning for gold. My gold was on the sides of the trout. After 2 tours in Vietnam, I re-enlisted and was shipped to West Germany. Fished all over Europe with my home-built rod, and a spiral wound, white Shakespeare "Wonderod." Bought graphite rods when they became popular in the 90's. And had a custom bamboo fly rod built for my 65th birthday in 2015. Sold my graphite and bamboo rods last week. Just got a new fiberglass fly rod in the mail. It's a Moonshine Rod Company Drifter model, 8 ft 6 in, 4-piece, 4-weight rod. I've fished with it twice in the Toccoa, catching stocker rainbow, brown, and brook trout. Using a Galvan reel that I had on my bamboo rod. I like this rod and although I release the trout I catch, this rod is a keeper!
