Hi Everyone,

New here, first of all whats bring me here is because i do love small and tiny fishing gear. I do micro spinning fishing. I search through web for a short and slow rod and found some fiberglass fly rod at 5' - 6' feet 2/3 wt. Some others 1 wt too. That trigger my interest to know more about fly fishing, fiberglass rod and reel. Searching through web about small fly reel bring me here! I love looking at it.

So why not fly fishing thou !

So My Name is Ghazalee from Malaysia. Need to learn more about fly fishing since we do not have trout in Malaysia. But for sure i will throw some micro nymph with short fly rod for smaller species of mahseer here but im not too sure.

Thanks FFR for bringing people here !!!

Welcome ghazals. About ten years ago we had a couple of members from Malaysia who would post local trip reports that were exotic to most of us. Hope you enjoy the fishing.

Just joined the forum. I just started fly fishing last summer and I may have developed a problem already haha. I already own 5 rods and just bought everything to build a blue halo 7wt this week. I’ve got an 8wt and 2 6wt graphite rods. Then I bought the 6’6” eagle claw on a whim and a 2wt CGR.

If anyone is in the Indianapolis area, I’d love to find some more fishing buddies.

Welcome aboard, Lj2005. I see you are already sliding down a steep slope of addiction.

I think it was more like doing a swan dive from a cliff haha. My conventional rods and reels getting stolen may have been the best (or worst) thing that could have happened to me.

Good Morning: I was introduced to fly fishing in the mid-60’s. Glass rods were pretty much the staple of beginners. Over the years while living in Upstate NY, Arizona and Oregon I graduated to Graphite, Graphite with Boron and every length and WT imaginable. Bamboo? Oh yeah, it couldn’t be just any one it had to be over-the-top.
You know the names. Sage, T&T, Loomis, Scott, Winston,
I have now gone full circle and I’m back to glass. My best fishing buddy and I were in the Catskills a couple of years ago. At the Catskill Fly Fishing Museum and their annual swap meet I encountered a MacFarland 8 1/2 x 5 Wt. my buddy bought it and I kind of forgot about it. A year later while fishing in WV my friend wanted to try a bamboo rod I was using. He handed me the same MacFarland glass rod that he bought in the Catskills a year ago. He never got it back. We did a trade and the rest is history.
I’ve gone full circle. I’M BAAAAACK! I enjoyed the ride.

Hello,
my name is Reinhard from germany. My english is ok. but not perfekt.
My first fly rod was also my first rod building project in 1980. Based on a Lamiglas 7,6´ 6 weight, glas blank, a very fast casting "weapon".
Now I do own a few dozens glas fly rods beside a few more dozens graphite and bamboo fly rods.
And as I´m an allround fisher man, I do also fish glas rods for spinning or carping, but not only glas, also a lot of carbons.
I do have a quite good insight on the former german market for rods and reel, do have katalogs of for example Shakespeare or DAM back into the 60is and 50ies.
I do a lot of rod building and repair and could have some helpful ideas.

Reinhard

Welcome doublehaul. We are lucky to have such a wide range of experienced and resourceful people here. Maybe you will be the one--amongst your memories or stored catalogs--with more to tell about the Hardy/Sportex discussed here. viewtopic.php?f=3&t=68969

New to Fly Fishing. It's been year now. I'm hoping for a fiberglass rod some day and have joined to read and learn about them.

I fish primarily for Panfish and Pickerel. Notice I said that I fish for them. There is no Indication as to wether or not they'll let me catch them.

NJ here, been fly fishing for maybe 10 years but mostly graphite. Bought a CGR 6 ft6 four weight and learned quickly how fun fiberglass fishing is. Currently refinishing a JC Higgins (sears) rod that was sold to me as a 3 pole package deal by an older gentleman when I was first starting out. I love the pole, but it needed some work. Stripped totally down and put a new finish on the blank. Waiting for my new reel seat and cork grip to get here to finish it up. The Higgins rod is 88 inches or so, or 7ft 4 inches. Been fishing it very successfully as a 4 weight. Thanks all!

Welcome, MrJesse34! Looks like you're well on your way, both in fishin' and tinkerin' with fiberglass.

Thank you for the welcome! I just got a few more project rods coming my way:

St Croix Park Falls Pacemaker 8'6 with a blue handle
Wright and McGill Denco 8A 7' 6" green handle
Sage B580SFL (this rod is ready to fish now and I can't wait to try it out!)
