In case you were going to visit Yellowstone National Park (YNP) soon, be advised that the park is closed until further notice. . The National park Service announced this today.

Getting crazier but I see the point .People from areas outside the area should stay away til this subsides.

The USFS has now closed all campgrounds and facilities in GA. Apparently they don’t have the resources to clean vault toilets etc to current CDC advised standards, especially as to frequency (I don’t like the implications of that as I suspect those standards will be in place for months, or possibly perpetuity, and resources will certainly be pressed going forward). Trails and primitive camping are still open, but given what’s happened during prior government shutdowns with trash and hygiene, I wouldn’t be surprised if that gets officially banned in a couple of weeks. But I’ve sometimes been accused of being a pessimist.

I’m trying to figure out the fisheries which will benefit the most.....ie we have some local lakes where many if not most fishermen are campers from out of the area, the boat ramps are in parks etc. Might be very good for a solo float tube....

Guys, could we please try to keep this topic as more of an announcement topic, rather than one for speculation and debate? This makes it easier for people to find information at a glance.

Thanks! :)

I'm planning on going to Yellowstone, but not until September 9th. I have reservations at Madison campground. I've had a really rough year and a half and need to seriously decompress. I'm hoping things will be back to normal by September, although it's pushing the envelope ref snow going that late. I'm scheduled to fly back on the 23rd. I had kicked around just running up the Smokies, but all those pics on the N.P.S., Glacier, and SW groups got me wanting to go West bad.

Deschutes National forest has closed campgrounds through May 8. Trailheads remain open yet they request "not to travel for recreational purposes".

Valley Forge National Historical Park is also closed, which is in two of the hardest counties in Pennsylvania that are under a stay at home order from our Governor.

Apparently, the park was a zoo last weekend, with tons of people all over the place which I am sure made the decision to close a lot easier.

Lassen Volcanic National Park just closed, too. Granted, it is mostly still snow-covered this time of year.

I volunteer at the Klondike Gold Rush National Historic Park in Seattle and we've been closed for eleven days now.

This morning: "ODFW is encouraging people to get out and fish while maintaining social distancing guidelines....anglers can park at campgrounds...boat ramps are open and accessible."

This afternoon "USFS have closed all developed recreation sites, including campgrounds, day-use sites, boat ramps trailheads....

I'm going to close this thread. Watching the dominoes fall won't help. Expect parks to be closed.

In general, I want to keep this forum free of pandemic news and discussion. We all know it is there. We are all bombarded with a constant stream of informational overdose. I want the forum to be a refuge from that. Everyone needs somewhere they can go for a break. In the short term, for some of us that might not mean going fishing. Hopefully the forum can help a little.

Tom
