Maybe not someone everyone here is familiar with, but I just found out my TV fishin' hero Jerry McKinnis passed away back in early November.

It was his TV show "The Fishin' Hole" that got me to buy my first fiberglass rod, an Eagle Claw Trailmaster fly/spin that he touted the virtues of every week.

I still have that rod, the Garcia 408 I used with it and lot of great memories!!

RIP Jerry.

That was a great show.Jerry was one of those hosts that maybe you feel like he was your neighbor.Fishing the West was another of that era that I tried not to miss.

"The Fishing Hole" is/was the only fishing show I really enjoyed, definitely a guy who made you want to go fishing with him.

Sorry to hear about Jerry McKinnis passing. I have some fond memories of his shows as a younger man. His shows were always light hearted but obviously full of passion from what I recall. Saw him fish for everything from bass to trout to catfish to salmon to steelhead to walleye to pike to panfish to sturgeon. The picture that comes to mind was from an episode on the Snake River, and he was standing in water about waist deep alongside a sturgeon that was 11' 10" long as I recall.

Here's to you, Jerry...better late than never.

What a great show. Jerry had a delightful, down home personality. One thing that still sticks with me is the “script” that ended every show; “Dedicated to Dad. He always had time to take me fishing.”

Would also mention that McKinnis and Forrest Wood, founder of Ranger Boat Company in Flippin, AR, were good friends. Forrest passed away last month at age 87.

I didn't realize either had passed. Both were great people. I always thought Jerry had one of the best fishing shows on TV. I especially remember a couple when he and Bobby Knight were fishing together. Knight was a very avid fly fisherman.

Both will be missed-Jerry and Forest

That’s too bad and I hold both of those guys in high esteem. I met Mr. Wood years ago as he was always a staple at Tulsa Boat Show, which was really something back in the day.

Paul English, Willie Nelson’s longtime drummer passed away recently as well - the person who inspired Willie’s song ‘Me and Paul’.

I watched "The Fishi'n Hole" all the time, whenever it was aired. We have lost so many over the last few years... As I get older (vintage if you will) the trend will unfortunately continue. Enjoy life while you are alive.

That's sad news. I was as big of fan of Jerry Mckinnis as anyone. Eagle Claw made two Fishin' Hole Fly Rods back in the 1970's & early 80's, one fiberglass and one graphite. I have both and fish them regularly. Here's the link to some pics I posted in the past...
