Hello all!
my name is Andrea and I am from Italy. I registered on the forum as I was looking for suggestions about a Catskill region trip and a friend of fine suggested me to look at the forum. I have been here before but mainly for reading topics and now it's time to introduce myself properly!
I own 3 fiberglass rods, blanks assempled by friends. I enjoy fishing with them all the time.
Hope this is the right area of the forum to introduce myself, apologize if it's not!

Welcome Andrea! You might want to mention what time of year your trip is planned for. Some of the members here meet up every year around the end of May to middle June and there are other fly fishing events that occur through the summer in the area. Hopefully someone from the area can chime in.

You could also contact the Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum https://cffcm.com/

Welcome from Texas Andrea. We'd like to hear about your fishing techniques, trips, equipment and pictures are always welcome. I just read yesterday that there is an Italian fly fishing technique where long leader are used. Always interesting to hear of new things about fly fishing.

thanks!
I am fairly new to fly fishing, I started 5 years ago with a training with a Fly Fishing Club and I got infected pretty quickly :lol
What always fascinated me about fly fishing is the tying, and of course being able to catch a fish using my own fly, matching a hatch is something incredible every time it happens.
I am not sure I know about that technique you are referring to, for sure I am using long leader (14ft or 15ft) and tip (6x up to 2 meters) when fishing picky fish like graylings, even if the casting needs to be adapted to the leader length.
It’s fun to adapt the technique to the fish we are trying to trick, and of course is always challenging (at least for a newbie like me)

and if I'm allowed, here are a couple of photos from last weekend. these are the first trouts of the season for me, both capture on dry fly. the rainbow using a Baetis Rhodani on #16 and the brown using a March Brown on #14
I am currently using a Sage One 8'2" #4 which I really like. otherwise I normally use a Scott G2 7'7" #3 or other customa made roda, both carbon fiber or fiberglass.

Welcome. These are indeed some chunky fish and on dries that early in the year. Well done. What is the rough area where you fish?

here are some more from last 2 weekends.
i usually fish in my region (Piemonte) or in the river Brenta (Veneto region)
I have to say the Brenta offers more variety of fishes than the rivers i have close to my home. Piemonte region rivers are suffering a bit, due to low water level and uncontrolled catches.

these are trouts from Brenta:

this is one from my region (river Gesso)
