May 17-19, 2019 Pisgah Forest, NC

The Carolina Conclave is a gathering of fly fishers in the Pisgah Forest (Brevard, NC) - enjoying the beauty and fish of western North Carolina.  This is a time to meet up with old and new friends, cast some (mostly fiberglass! but not limited to) rods, swap some gear, eat some good food and go fishing.

I’m doing it a little differently than years past as I’d like to keep it simple. No registration fee, just come! We won’t have any ‘formal’ meals or raffles or shirts. Just hanging out, fishing and if you’d like to gear swap that’s always welcome.

Friday and Saturday evenings we will meet up at Sycamore Flats Picnic Shelter in Pisgah Forest, NC, along the Davidson River.

There is a lot of fishing in the area: delayed harvest, hatchery supported, wild and wary and everything in between in the immediate area. And if you're willing to explore the possibilities are unlimited! Trophy water at the Davidson River Outfitters as well! I know some guides who'd be willing to take a few guys out too (book early to ensure yourself a spot).

FRIDAY starting around 5pm: We'll have a time of meeting, greeting, and casting, and gear swapping as well as a casual cookout (cash donations accepted to cover costs). This will be a good time to make fishing plans for the rest of the weekend.

SATURDAY: GO FISH! Repeat of Friday night - just hanging out at Sycamore Flats Picnic Shelter.

SUNDAY: Fish some more!

Thanks very much and I'm looking forward to seeing you in western NC!

Details:
It'll be just outside of Asheville, NC near the town of Brevard in the Pisgah National Forest. We'll be HQ'd at Sycamore Flats Picnic Shelter: https://www.recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/234744
The Davidson River Campground is a great campsite and is very close to Sycamore Flats. https://www.recreation.gov/camping/davidson-river/r/campgroundDetails.do?contractCode=NRSO&parkId=70204

Nearby are many other lodging possibilities (make reservations soon to make sure you've got a place to say): Brevard/Pisgah Forest Area

There are quite a few breweries and tasty BBQ in the area we're looking for help from as well as so come thirsty!

Sounds great. I like the simple approach and it should make it easier for Chris to relax and enjoy.

Oh and er-ah - it is breakfast at Bojangles !!

It's a nice area to visit. There's a lot of water in the area. If you enjoy brookies... the parkway has a lot to offer. Looks like I will start planning a trip, don't know the exact days I'll be there yet... but I will plan to camp.
The campsite will have breakfast every morning and a good campfire with refreshments to pass around in the evenings.

Fantastic guys! So glad this is coming together again. Especially you Fred - but I'm gonna stay away from that Virginia Creek Water! :D

Thanks for putting this together again! I had a great time last year!

I plan to be there and I was looking at my lodging options this past weekend. The length of my stay in the Brevard area depends on my business travel but I (at least) plan to be there Thursday evening through Sunday morning.

Chris

I am fairly new to both the forum and fiberglass rods -- i have a couple Fenwicks and a couple Medalists. I live in Atlanta most of the year (West Yellowstone much of the summer), and I have fished a good bit in western NC including some on the Davidson--all in my pre-fiberglass life. I hope to attend the conclave and meet some of you and your vintage rods and reels -- if i can shake a work related commitment that weekend.

It's looking like we'll have a great turnout so far!
I'll be camping in the Poplar Loop at the Davidson River campground. There are some other sites available but please make your reservations soon to ensure a spot (there are also walk-in sites not too far away).

One more thing... I just heard the Fly Fishing Film Festival is going to be at Oscar Blues Brewery in Brevard on May 17th.

I am going to try attending this year since the date doesn't conflict with the local event in Townsend. Look forward to meeting ya'll.

I reserved a site in the Poplar Loop. Only 2 sites left in that loop as of last night.

Don't know that I can make it but hope I can. I've stayed near Brevard several times and have enjoyed the fishing.

Chris,

Can you call my girlfriend's brother and convince him to postpone his wedding in Hawaii?

You do know there is bonefish in Hawaii. Plus it's Hawaii.

Sure, I could try to convince him.
But as Bob says - it's Hawaii. Do that. :D

Sure would like to join you guys for the gathering. However, since my wife is having knee replacement surgery on May 15, I'm guessing that I should be home that weekend. Have a wonderful time.
