No Jury duty. Trial cancelled. I'll be there some time Friday. Early afternoon probably.

Unless the weather forecast for Wednesday changes significantly, I will probably wait to come down on Thursday.

Does anyone know how quickly that river clears up after a heavy rain?

Larry,
We are heading down Wednesday night, as planned. If the weather is still happening when we get there, we will grab a hotel nearby. Waco probably....

There is a hotel in West. I believe it’s a best western. From there you are 15 minutes away. Maybe less, just take 114 west until it joins 1304. You will pass R&R meat processors on the left. They have the best Jerky and bacon you can find. Weather is supposed to be nice after Wednesday.

Not as big a problem with rains as it is with lake water releases down there. We should be ok

Just spoke with Carl, and he's out. Saw on his Facebook page that he's beginning a new career and is hitting ground running.

Maybe we'll catch him on next one.

Just a heads up for those traveling to the Brazos. We’ve had between 2-2.5 inches of rain today. Rain is over and rest of week should be nice. Don’t know how soon the river will drop but right now it’s flowing at 7500 cfs.

I will have several rods for sale, including Hardy JETs, Phillipsons, and Fenwicks. Also a good selection of vintage reels. If there is anything you are specifically interested in, let me know.

Safe travels.

If the Brazos is blown out you might go over to the dam at Aquilla Lake. Not the most picturesque setting but with a sink tip and small clousers you should find some sand bass, crappie, and catfish. It’s only about 10 minutes away.

I sure did enjoy meeting the Friday evening folks and casting some rods! Wish I could have stayed longer.

Hope y'all had a great weekend fishing. I wish I could have made it this year. I spent the last two weekend away fishing so I felt my wife needed a weekend off from watching our daughter. Hopefully I will be able to make it out next time.

The old Canoeman curse was in effect once again, as far as the weather was concerned. Usually however, it is the rain that occurs during the event that is the problem. This time it was the rain that occurred the day before festivities started. There was a brief period on Friday when fishing conditions were good, however there were few fish to be had. I never stepped in the water the entire time I was there. During the brief window of time for fishing at the camp, people finally started showing up, which meant that rods and reels had to come out. By the time we had finished checking out all the rods we hadn't seen before, the water levels were back up too high to fish. I could have gone to the Nolan on Saturday for some fishing, but Les threw a barrier into my mind when he said there would be a short hike involved. After being awakened by cramps in my legs several times the night before, I just didn't feel like much of a stroll. Though the fishing conditions were not perfect, the weather for the campout following the rain was great. Had a great time meeting people I hadn't met before, and also got to see old friends I hadn't seen in several years. Despite his telling me he would not be able to make it to the clave, my friend Barry Evans showed up and held court Saturday afternoon. It was also really good to see Bud Crist, John Deardorf, and Raleigh Graves whom I hadn't seen since the last clave on the Brazos several years ago. Aaron Reed (TXH2Oman) told me he wouldn't be there, and then did show up for a while to visit. Glad you made it Aaron. Although the fishing might not have been great, I really didn't go for the fishing, as I can do that at home. Had fun with a lot of good people and played with a lot of great rods, including some I had not had the good fortune to try out before. Hayden (mdwwhw) brought his collection of Scepter rods he had built. If I am remembering correctly, he had a 7' 10" 5 weight that seemed to cast out to the far horizon with minimal effort. Randy (preast) had a little 1 weight he had built on an inexpensive blank that was just a delight to cast. I had wondered in light of the storms ahead of the event how many people might show up, but we had a pretty good turnout, with 13 intrepid souls showing up. Looking forward to future events, with perhaps better fishing opportunities.

Larry
