Started out fly fishing creeks with glass and it looks like I’ll go out creeking glass.

I have to admit I bought my first glass rod in years on impulse, based on nothing more than an in store wiggle and looks. It looked and wiggled like the Eagle Claw of my youth. Hailing originally from WY/MT now in the mountains AZ, my home waters here are small creeks with Apache trout and big Browns. The Browns are my current effort.

I found this site following reviews of a certain Flagstaff, AZ glass rod builder. I really like my production 7’6” 4wt and catch a lot of fish with it. However I catch big browns on big heavy flies fished to tiny pockets of deep water and the 4 wt doesn’t boss them with the authority I like. There’s going to be a shortish 5wt or 6 wt in my near future.

Cheers,

Welcome! I studied geology at Flagstaff, so I just had to have a Steffen. Love those remote canyon trout.

Welcome to the forum. I too have a Steffen, probably the first production blank of their relatively new 6ft 2pc 2/3wt, a great little rod. If you have the opportunity, you should visit the shop in Flagstaff. I did that last October and enjoyed the visit.

Welcome, AzTrouter! I'm another Steffen owner, with one of the #2/3 6 footers possibly in my future. You will have quite a few options for a shortish 5/6wt -- enjoy the search.

Welcome. It's hard to beat glass and small streams.
