Tom ... If this belongs in the. ..never mind!
- All -

In anticipation of moving to FT Campbell KY I sought out more local sources of fly fishing information. That search led me to the SouthEast FlyFishing Forum.

Long story short ... in my short time being on that board, (I posted an intro on 25 June) ... I've seen more back biting, hatred, ugly name calling, openly abusive comments and public insults than in all the time that I've been a member of this board or the Bass Pond.

It's been said many times but it's worth repeating ... You guys are all a bunch of gentlemen and it would be a pleasure to meet and fish with anyone on this board.

David

David, if you ever get to Colorado don't forget to drop me a line so we can fish. Good luck in your new assignment.

I second the motion. I had my first ever internet date with cofisher Sunday, and it was great! I would welcome the chance to fish with you as well.

David,
The best of luck in your new assignment. I wholeheartedly agree with your assessment of this board and it's members. If you ever find yourself at Ft. Sill, please let me know and we will wet a line. We all appreciate all that you do and your willingness to serve.

Ha. .. mine was a terrific trip with Cameron and Creationbear in the smokymountain! It was a dirty south clave. So great! : )
Army, althoough KY is a little bit far away, if you have chance to visit the southeastern region, southern boyz are always welcome you and will put you into some nice bass fishing. : )

You may need to host a white river clave with Andy and Tom.

This place is really great, and it is only because each one of us takes the time to share and appreciate each other's ideas, knowledge, and time on the water.

I've been around here for three years now, and even though we've almost tripled in size since then, this site is only getting better with time!

I agree with you a 100%. This Site does keep getting better and better.
I got to meet a few of the people on the Site at the Glassic earlier this year and they were all great to be around. Although the fishing was less than stellar, the company and food more than made up for it!
David
I try to make it to TN around Thanksgiving every year. Maybe, we can put a Smallmouth trip together next time I'm there. Also, if you get a chance to get back to TX for a visit, let me know and we'll put something together locally.
Please be sure and keep us all posted on how the fishing is around your new assignment.

I agree, this site is the best. And, David, the really sad thing is that I'd say the other site you mention is probably above average for civility. Some sites I've seen (all in the past) just make you wonder why anyone would bother.

Enjoy the local fishing, and hope to meet you sometime.

Bob

this is a site dedicated to civility, fly fishing history, and sufficient tall tales to keep us human.

hey armyff,
i've had dozens of fishing sites bookmarked on and off, but over time the lack of civility (and just immature/stupid behavior) always puts me off. now i only really frequent 2 sites and this one is my favorite. nice guys. good information. pictures that allow me some vicarious pleasure. i guess one down side is that our nice site is attracting more folks and our compelling testimonials are most likely driving the awareness and price of glass rods up. what are you gonna do?
good luck on the move!

-mike

I just finally signed up here this evening, and I just wanted to post a message to say hello and let everyone know how useful this message board has been for me. I've been reading this board for months and have to admit that I've gotten more useful information here about fiberglass rods than anywhere else on the net. Over the the course of the last year or so I have acquired an addiction for Phillipson glass rods (I know, I read messages here that told me it would happen) and have become very interested in them. I started fly fishing in the early 60's. My first fly rod my father got for me back then was a Fenwick FF75 and a year or two later I acquired a FF70 that had just the most beautiful action that anyone could ever want. I still have both of those rods and have kept them in excellent condition. Lately I have been acquiring a few Phillipsons. I don't quite know what it is, but there is something about the feel of these rods that makes them very unique. Anyway, the information that I've gotten here about the Phillipsons has been quite helpful, especially the info from jgestar and a few others. I hope that I will be able to share some meaningful info in the future.

Retiredtroutguy,

Welcome to the Fiberglass Flyrodders!

I know what you mean about Phillipson rod addiction. It is impossible to just get one. And you have a couple of the true classic Fenwicks also. It would be great to post some photos when you get a chance.

I'm glad you decided to join the fun!

Tom

ArmyFlyFisher, I joined the SEFFF for a short time. In the short 3 weeks I was a member, most of the post on it were about binge drinking and calling each other names. One of the moderators even tried to sell porno mags in the classifieds. I dropped my membership after that. A lot of college kids seem to frequent that site.

When you get settled at Ft. Campbell, you will find you are close to a lot of area lakes and rivers warm and cold water. Ft. campbell itself has a WMA and a few ponds and a stocked trout stream. The surrounding area is farmland, so you may be able to find some pond action. Nashville area has some good tailwaters and if you drive farther East to my home area of East TN and the Smoky Mtns, plenty of rivers, lakes with a variety of species. Creation Bear and I are both very familiar with these streams. Go west to Land between the Lakes WMA and also as mentioned, Arkansas to the Little Red, Norfork and White rivers for big brown trout fishing.
Hope the move goes well and let us know if you make the trip over to East TN for a visit.

TNS ...

I agree about SEFFF ... I've not posted in a while and don't really plan on being an active member there.

I'm itching to get to TN ... Smallies ... trout ... LMBs ... etc!

Thanks,

David

Tom,

Thanks for the welcome. I don't have that many vintage rods worthy of photos , but I'll see what I can do.

Oh, by the way, nice bid on the Johnson Profile 400 today. I would of bid a little higher on that one except I didn't care for the wear on the real seat. It made me believe that rod may possibly have been heavily used. Anyway, over the last few months, that makes two Phillipsons that you've taken from me in the last few seconds of the auction. Not a problem. I'm not upset. That's what auctions are about.

Jay,

Sorry about sniping you. To be honest, I thought I would get that one for a song. The seller mis-spelled both Phillipson and Eponite. If you found that one, you have some good eBay skill!

I don't think that is wear on the reelseat. I think it's dirt. Usually the heavily used rods show a lot of wear on the bottom edge of the fixed reelseat hood. And thread wear usually isn't that uniform, because the threads are only tightened enough to hold the reel. On the other hand, I'm often amazed how much dirt comes with older rods. As if the rod was once coated in mud. The rod bag is an old Fenwick bag, but it looks like an original rod tube. I'll let you know when it gets here.

Tom,

I'm curious about that Johnson Profile you just bought. Did you get it yet? Was its condition as described? Did you test cast it? Whats the action like?

Jay,

I don't have it in my hands yet. I want to compare it with the 8 foot Master rods that were built around the same time. I have a suspicion that the closest match will be Bulldog's 8 foot Phillipson Expert. More details when I get it.

Tom,

I would have thought that you would have had it by now. That seller must be a little slow on the shipping..

I just saw this one go up on ebay. Looks very familiar. Wasn't this rod sold about one or two months ago? Looks a little strange in the pictures. The rod sock and tube don't seem to be long enough, but the rod looks to be in decent shape.
