I was just looking over the "Sweet Grass Rods" site and found that Sam Druckman has joined their staff to produce graphite and glass rods. The glass rods are pricey, but well appointed. Goo Boo Boys. Respectfully RV Reclus

The glass rods are shown at the bottom of the graphite page. Sweetgrass offers a 6½ foot, 3 weight and a 7½ foot, 4 weight. Both are two piece, brown rods with a medium action "somewhat reminiscent of bamboo". The price for either rod is $750. That's right, $750. That makes the other high end glass look pretty darned affordable.

The heart of Sweetgrass rods obviously holds cane rods dearest, with graphite as the preferred second choice. The fiberglass rods are presented like an afterthought. There isn't even any indication the rod blanks are unique to Sweetgrass (hmm, 2 piece, brown, 6½'-3 and 7½-4?). That's OK, not everyone has to like glass. But if you are going to bother, you should at least try to sound a little excited by it. The fiberglass rod description is so lackluster it encourages the buyer to look elsewhere. I had higher hopes.

That's a lot of bread for rods built on blanks that retail for $64 and $69. No doubt some people will buy one just for the sweetgrass name.

A 7 1/2' 4WT glass that weighs 4 ounces? A 7 1/2' 4WT Winston Retro with similar components weighs 3 1/4 ounces. That agate guide must be really heavy! It's certainly a nice looking rod, though.
