With the possibility of Harnell fly rods looming on the horizon, I thought, it would be fun to see what everyone would pick as their first choice. Please keep in mind that these are only the specs I could find and have no idea if these are even going to be the rods they start with, this is pure speculation and for entertainment. I just thought it may be kind of fun to see what the general population would go with I would go with the ultra-lite 9001 7'6" 4-5 Wt.

8001 General Dry Fly Rod 2 piece 7'6" 5-6 Wt

8003 General Dry Fly Rod 2 piece 8' 6-7 Wt

8004 General Dry Fly Rod 2 piece 8'6" 7-8 Wt

9001Ultra-lite Dry Fly Rod 2 piece 7'6" 4-5 Wt

9003 Ultra-lite Dry Fly Rod 2 piece 8' 5-6 Wt

9004 Ultra-lite Dry Fly Rod 2 piece 8'6" 6-7 Wt

8007 General Salt Water Fly Rod 2 piece 9'5" 10-11 Wt

Who wants a 4-5 wt? ( Just giving you a hard time) Me, I want the a big stick, the 8.5 7/8. The 9.5fter would likely be too much. Better would be a 9' 9wt. Still pondering, what would I do with a 4-5wt?

Can't speculate on models really as I have never cast a Harnell Fly Rod previously. But if I had to hazard a guess I would say a 8003

Edit, seems the consensus is a 9001 so who am I to argue Image So a 9001 it is ...

Hello
I would take one of each!
It will be interesting to see what ferrule design the new "Harnell" rods will employ!
I also hope they improve the rest of the hardware a bit as well.
I wonder if they will bring back the white blank "Harnells" also.

I'd have to go with the 9001 as well.

Of course the 9001 is of interest for me as a trout fly rod ... but that 8003 could be a neat river fly rod if I were to get a kayak and start exploring the Broad and Saluda Rivers for a long list of species that live there.

Of course as a trouter, I would be interested in their lighter models. What are the differences between the General and Ultra-lite series? Before the Book, I had never heard of Harnell. Over at SOL, there seems to be a strong following amongst the surfcasters. How about their fly rods - can anyone comment on the casting/ actions/ glass type?

I hope the new Harnell does well. I applaud EJHar's courage and commitment.

MuddlerOH no blasphemy on the 4 piecers. Glass seems to be the only rod material that does not mind the multi piece configuration. Graphite gets stiffer and bamboo gets tip heavy. I should probably be on the lookout for a 7 1/2' multi piece to complement the Scott 5pc.
