Jerry,

Welcome to the Fiberglass Flyrodders!

This Glassic is starting to sound like an event. I'm only a couple of states away, so I might have to try and get there. But where exactly is the Nolan river?

Tom

Sweet Jerry! ... and welcome to the best site on the internet!

Great Tom! I hope to meet you!

This "event" definately IS starting to take on a life of it's own!

Les, Pearow and I are talking it up on a Texas Fly Fishing board, and it looks like a good group will be attending from there too!

I'm hoping to do some recon (and maybe a little fishing) in the area soon (with Les maybe?) and find a good base of operations as well as accomodations and camping for those so inclined.

Stay tuned!

David

That helmet won't help you here. We use big guns.

We normally only shoot if you are in our fishing holes. Bud will try and keep me from plugging anyone.

Mark,

Luckily for you, this is a glass clave and not a shotgun clave!

If you're anywhere near Central Texas in March, please attend! I have an extra bedroom in my house and would be more than happy to host you.

If anyone is in the area after the holidays, I'm planning on checking the area out and would welcome the company.

I'd like to check out Bend (the Colorado River) the Brazos and the Nolan for fishing and also to recon the accomodations in the area.

armyflyfiser, I live fairly close to you just west of Killeen. I fish the Lampassas River for White Bass and do quite well on them. I also fish on post a good bit and one of the lakes I like is just behind Wall Mart off 190. There are some huge Bass and really large Gills in this lake. I might be interested in the Glassic clave in March to.

Hoboflyfisher ...

Welcome to this site! I think that you'll find a great group of people here with lots of knowledge and an easy willingness to share it with everyone.

We need to get together! I fish Clear Creek on post all the time ... either in West FT Hood behind Montague Villiage or in Training Area 41 (TA41) and have found lots of willing large mouth bass, bluegill and catfish. In fact my avatar is a 16" LMB taken in TA41 with my Fenwick FF755.

I've not been to the lake you're talking about, but have fished a few lakes on post with medium success.

I go to the Lampasas most weekends lately ... using the access at the suspended bridge on Maxdale road off of 195 South of Killeen.

In fact, I'll be there tommorrow with my Fenwick FF806!

I'm hoping to travel to the Nolan, Brazos and the town of Blum to recon the area after the holidays. We'll have to plan a day trip!

David

I would really like to make it to this clave. I'm from the far North (southern Oklahoma), but I would be willing to make such a long drive into a foreign country to meet you guys and play with a few fiberglass rods. I'm sure my neighbor would like to come also. That weekend is the start of our Spring Break and I'm sure that is also true for many of the Texas schools. Is that likely to make for a crowded situation? Been a while since I've gotten into some white bass, and I'm looking forward to it.
:D

Dave ... Shoot me an email and I will give you my phone number ... or look it up on the TFR site. We have been hammering the sand bass below the Whitney dam, and it just keeps getting better. If you come over I will show you around and we can fish in the evening ...

Larry,

Come on down! We'd love to have you join the growing numbers of guys that will make this clave a great time!

From what I hear there is a fair chance that we won't be the only ones on the river that weekend ... not because of Spring break - but more due to the prolific numbers of white bass.

Also, if you haven't already, check out another great board - Texas Fly Report. There are a few of us here (Keebranch, Bud, Pearow, etc) that frequent both boards. You'll find lots of area specific information there.

Bud,

You can count on it! But ... It will probably be the week of Christmas or after the holidays.

David, Bud, & Others,
I popped back in over on TFR (been away for a long time) after Johnboy emailed me, and added my name to the list of participants. I've fished the Brazos below Whitney and been by the Nolan but never fished it. My Fenwick and I are looking forward to the trip ... d

armflyfisher, after this weather settles down a bit we will have to hook up and do some fishing. I fish at Gravel Crossing on the Lampassas River and Stillhouse a good bit out of my canoe or jonboat. My biggest's to date was a Black Bass of 27 1/2 inches caught last year out of Stillhouse Lake, I also took a 17 1/2 inch Crappie about 2 years ago out of the same water. My best to date on White Bass is a 21 incher about 4 years ago from Colorado River State Park not on a fly though.

Got me a fiberglass rod off eBay (Eagle Claw 6' 6" Classic Feather Light). Looks like I'm in.
