On Texas Fly Fishing Forums we've started talking about a conclave on the Brazos River below Lake Whitney.

Anyone here interested?

Still in the formative stages ... but I think it would be a lot of fun.

Bud,

I'm thinking that a clave in the Spring 2008 to hit the white bass run at would be a great time to get together.

good idea; there's several glass men around the waco area that dont post on this forum and I havent seen them on TFR in awhile; a "glassic" might smoke em out, and with the brazos, the Nolan, the Paluxy, and the lakes, there should be plenty of places to find fish-p-

David,
Pearow's near Murchison in East Texas. I think he'd come down, though.

Cool Robert.

Probably the Brazos in the Spring for a planned "Glassic."

But ... if anyone ever wants to get together for some fly tossing some weekend ... let me know. I've never fly fished with anyone ... always on the water by myself. I'd be curious to find out how many mistakes I'm making!

If you're fishing on base, I'm not sure I can get on. My mom could, but I don't have that level of access.

The Nolan has a very nice sand bass run if the flows are good in the spring.

I should have some time in October.

Thanks Les.

But I know that most of the guys on here have years and years of fly fishing experience. I just started waving sticks and slinging flys about a year and a half ago.

But thanks to guys like you and web sites like this the learning curve isn't nearly so bad, and it's so d$@# fun to boot!

the good thing is that Waco is almost in the middle of the state; thats about as close as we can get to everyone; Austin, DFW, Murchison, etc.-p-

That's right Gene. A good location with lots of sandbass and glass rods swinging.
David, Don't give up; it'll happen.

Pearow: I appreciate what you are saying here. My wife's sister lives in Athens, Tx. Have been on many a bass fishing trip in the area during family visits there.

I'm sure interested. Hope for the best. Me and my 5,6,7,8's would like any kind of Bass very much. Maybe I can get the "WarWagon" running by then. (My '74 Winnebago Chieftain ) Glenn

Cool Glenn ...

There's a few choices we have to pick from ...

#1. Bend State Park on the Colorado River
#2. the Brazos River
#3. the Nolan River
#4. the Paluxy River
#5 the San Gabriel River
#6 the San Saba River

I think that any of these would be a blast, fishing for white bass this coming Spring.

I'll leave it up to the potential participants to determine a majority concensus regarding location and date.

David,
Only because there are so many of us farther north, my vote is the Nolan. It's an easier drive from Murchison as well as most of North Texas, and it's still close enough for the folks down in Waco or Austin. But all the sites you mentioned do have some wonderful spring white bass runs.

What: Texas Glassic - The first annual conclave of flyfishers using fiberglass fly rods in the North/Central Texas area.

When: 15-16 March 2008

Where: Nolan River (specific site to be determined)

Anyone wanna play?

David

PS ... This 'clave is by no means limited to local residents only. If ANYONE from surrounding states wants to join, or happens to be in the area ... PLEASE feel free to come and have a good time with us!
