I am a retired soil conservationist/agronomist. Bet I am the only one. To keep myself out of my wifes hair I manage a small fly shop. I always have and to my last days will always be chasing fish.

Recently retired tax auditor - worked for the South African tax authorities. Now catching up on home maintenance and fishing in nearby estuary when the tide is right in the evenings. Hope to visit my wife's family in Torrington, Wyoming and surroundings next September.

Retired geologist in Bend, Oregon. You would think we are out in the wilds looking at rocks, but actually far too much time was spent in an office. Just picked up a nice glass rod and found myself reading this nice forum.

I'm a contractor and enjoy fishing opportunities throughout the week while most everyone else is at work. Once the jobs are started and things going ok I'm tossing a fly!

20 years as a Finish Carpenter, then my body started playing out. Now a Senior Lab tech doing mechanical testing. So when I break a fish off I'm only doing my job. Testing the line/knot tensile strength.

CATV/Telecomuncations contractor. Been doing it for 30+ years. It would be easier to list where I haven't worked in the US then where I have.

Had a home base in Dallas, TX. and San Diego, CA. for years but gave up those homes and now live in RV and travel extensively for work.

I am a retired Marine and while stationed state side the Marine Corps placed me at some pretty good fishing locations: North Carolina, Georgia and Kansas. On my first tour I became aquainted with fisherman in New Bern NC and I adopted their fly fishing method; that was my start with fly fishing.
After retiring from the Marine Corps the GI Bill enabled me to get an EE degree and I am presently employed as a Systems Engineer in Texas.
I'd like to add that the intuitive feel that fly fishing has given in matching the physical links of a system has been key in enabling me to understand and solve problems in my work. In general, I think fly fishing offers a wealth of experience that makes all of our lives richer.

a clerk for the largest non-profit in the country, the US Postal Service. We dont make much money but we get a LOT of time off, my best year was 5 months but I average 3. I have fished from Labrador to Patagonia and just about everywhere in between. Everything in life is a compromise, one way or another. I compromised my career, an accounting job with a 2 week vacation, for a full fishing life, and learned to simplify my life. Thoreau said it well, a man is rich in proportion to the things he can afford to live without !

We come from all walks of life.

I was a Teamster that specialized in fitting big things into small places(mover) in my younger years and eventually moving on to beer truck driver. Now I am retired/disabled due to many injuries. I now have 3 young daughters that I take care of while not fishing. I am also a percussionist, poet, gardener and a book worm.

I'm a recovering lawyer, about to start a new job with the State of Iowa working on stream and river mitigation projects. Been collecting vintage/blue collar glass since 2005 or so.

Longtime lurker on the for-sale page, appreciating all the different types of tackle that make up the fiberglass world. Planning to become more active on the other parts of the board.

Greetings.

11 years as a tow truck operator - most of that driving a flatbed. Also been a bus driver (school and motor coach), security guard, computer technician. I'm also my son's father and my wife's husband - don't get to fish nearly as much as I want, but I'm doing my best to spark that passion in a certain 4 year old's heart. He's a pretty decent fisherman in his own right - though I still have to do the casting right now. He turns 5 in April and I think I'm going to pick up a Tenkara rod to ease him into fly fishing this year.

Maintenance mechanic for more years then I care to mention. I'm not complaining, it's been a good gig and I've been blessed...Just got back to fly fishing about 3 years now. Got a couple of young grand son's and hope to bring them along.

Realized I've been here for a while and never added to this chain.

I'm a professional musician in Toronto, Canada, previously in New York City.

I just now noticed this thread. It's really neat to see all the diversity here as far as backgrounds. As for myself I am a logger in northwestern PA and technically I am self employed.
