Snakeroll, Welcome to the forum. I hope you at least get to find some undiscovered fishing spots in your travels.

Remember everyone, we are a fishing forum. While this is a topic about occupations, it is more about who you are and fishing preferences than an in depth study of jobs. I assume most forum members don't want me talking organic chemistry...

I wish my organic chemistry professor(s) fly fished. I probably wouldnt have failed O Chem 2 twice!

I've fly fished since I was 14 so 22 years. I've worked for the same environmental remediation contractor for 14 years (plus a summer internship). I've been fortunate to work (and fish) all over.

Best was Bangor, ME for 2017. I got real into LL Salmon and fished the WB a ton. Also took advantage and went to NB and caught some Atlantic Salmon.

Been in NYC metro since then which isn't the end of the world because I have a camp a couple hours away on the EB.

I'm very lucky, my camp is on the best wild rainbow and brown trout river system in the east (I'm biased); and I can walk into the lower Niagara River gorge (excellent to world class for cold and warm water species) within a few hundred feet of my house.

Always trying to find more work near Bangor though...

Hello
Brand new to the forum. I am a retired military and commercial pilot from Alberta. I have many fly rods, one favourite is a Hardy JET 9WT, 2 piece, 9' long. I use it at present with a Ross reel and a 9WT slow sink line. I have many other fibreglass rods in my collection, but only a couple of fly rods, the other fly stuff is all modern composite or bamboo.
I have been fly fishing since I was a child, for well more than 45 years. I look forward to learning and hearing about the enjoyment of things related to fly fishing and glass rods.

@ Richard 4880, welcome to the forum, fly fishing is good
"Live in florida" is fine but if you put it in your profile, it will show in your posts and I won't have to remember it, ;)

Hi! Don’t know how I missed this long-running thread. I’m a Presbyterian minister, and in a lot of ways The Movie describes me. My dad taught my brother and me to (spin)fish in the Sierra of CA.near Mammoth. I taught myself to fly fish as.a junior in H.S. in 1970. We’d go to Mammoth to fish and hike every summer through my college years. So why am I not a better fisher??? I keep trying, though!

Fish on!
Peter

This is interesting to read about everyone's professional background. I'm currently a high school music teacher in Toronto. Getting ready to head into the hurricane...

New to this board. I create training programs for repairing MRI. Grew up near La Crosse, Wisconsin, but live near Madison for the last 31 years. Been into fishing my entire life, but haven't done a lot of fly fishing for trout. I saw the Cabela's CGR glass rod, 4 wt. 6'6" on sale for $57 and thought, "Why not?" It's on its way here. My 32 year old daughter got into fly fishing for trout this summer. She is a single mom, but drives over to the driftless area every other weekend, so I thought maybe a shorter fiberglass rod might work well over there if I want to join her. Is a 6'6" 4 wt. fiberglass rod too short? Is the CGR any good? I've got some 9-foot graphite fly rods, but none are too impressive... 5 wt. St. Croix Triumph, 6 wt. St. Croix Premier and 7 wt. Echo Base. I'm cheap! LOL I was thinking of the Echo River Glass in a 4 wt. 7' rod, but thought I'd try the CGR first, and then maybe get the Echo if I like glass.

Welcome Drake. I haven’t fished the 6’6” CGR, or any Driftless streams, but I wouldn’t say it’s too short. I have noticed a number of positive posts on that model. If all you’ve fished is 9’ graphite, you might have to figure out some adjustments, but that’s the kind of fun stuff when we get to do when visiting new waters. Enjoy.

Hello Drake, and welcome!

Looking forward to hearing about the little CGR on the water. I 'waggled' one in the store a while back, and was tempted.

30 years as a cabinet maker. Very informative forum, for I can not cast the new graphite rods to save my life.

Hi chinagreen, Welcome to the Forum!

Have you cast glass rods that you like? Or even old graphite rods that you like? It is possible to make an un-castable rod with any material.

Name is Earl. I'm a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, and retired from the Air Force. Now I drive an 18-wheeler part-time. That translates to "when I want to"...

I live in Clovis, New Mexico, far from the beautiful mountain streams...

I'm a retired Respiratory Therapist and so is my wife. Glad I'm retired at this time with all that is going on in the world! It would be a very stressful and busy time.

Thank you, Tomah!

Are you on the Union Pacific east of El Paso?
