Dave (Armyflyfisher) has been trying to put together an outing on the Nolan River near Whitney, Tx. I am trying to help him out little by checking out some of the camping and lodging options. OK ... I have been on the phone this morning with the Corps of Engineers. Camping prospects near the Nolan are very limited. Just got off the phone with Tim Jones, the owner of Indian lodge Resort. They are on Whitney at the mouth of the Nolan. His Phone Number is 254 889 3643. WWW.indianlodge.com. They have several cabins and can take up to 64 people ... if they are all sleeping two to a bed ... For most of you ... I guess they can handle 32. He has 7 RV spots and no tent camping, because there are no outdoor facilites ... ie showers and toilets. However, you may be able to negotiate something if you can use the facilities in the Cabins. Mid march is wide open right now ... this is their slow season and they may be willing to negotiate just about anything. They have boat slips for those of you who have boats. Also, Tim said he would shuttle members in his boat up to the river and save the hassle of parking (and it is a hassle) at Rock Creek. Tim said the ballpark cost for each guy would be 50 bucks a night. This includes the shuttle service to the river. This is probably negotiable if there are enough people going ...

This looks like a pretty good deal to me. The Campgrounds on Lake Whitney are a long way from the Nolan, and the Kimball Bend Park will not be open. The shuttle service is also a nice deal. He will let you out where the river hits the lake and you can wade from there ... and probably miss a lot of the crowds.

Bud,
Are you staying there or do you live close enough to commute?

Thanks Bud.

This is by no means "my" event. The more guys we get involved the better.

It would be great if we can get some sort of "head count" on guys that are interested so that we might get a handle on the best deal for any required lodging.

It would also be nice to get interested guys to let us know who might be wanting to overnight in the area and their preferred method of lodging ie. tent camping ... etc.

It looks like their could potentially be quite a gathering. We've got guys from another site that sound interested as well. Might be a great time to check out LOTS of fiberglass rods and meet some of the great people from from this site!

David

"Beware the Ides of March" ...

Bud,
I thought you were close but didn't know you were that close. I sure hope you can make it. We've missed each other on the water several times.

David,
The way it looks now I'll be up for a real bed in one of the cabins. My back don't take to kindly to sleepin' on the ground anymore. If you guys make the reservations, let me know when you need a deposit. If not, then let me know so I can make reservations..d

Dane, et al,
I spoke with Tim of Indian Lodge, and he has place everything he's got on hold for us; however we have until February 14 to make actual reservations. At that time he would open it up to others. The rates will be $50 night per person, and the lodge should be able to accomodate up to thirty people comfortably. As well he has RV hook-ups but no primitive camping. Here's his site:
www.indianlodge.com/

If anyone prefers more primitive camping, you may be required to help research this. Some of the state parks are not open this early, and some have not been rebuilt from recent flooding.

bring your fillet knife - it's the white bass that should beware the Ides of March.

Somebody got a dutch oven and and a jug of canola oil?

Bud,

I've only fished upriver from the tall bluff. How far downstream is the lake from the Bluff?

Depends on the level of the lake. Right now about a half mile.

I'm just days away from a new job offer so I don't know now if I'll be able to make it. I'll advise as soon as I know.

CSJ,

We've talked about the Glassic being on 15 and 16 March - Saturday and Sunday ... so I think you're in luck!

David ... if you get a chance, give Tim at Indian Lodge a call.
I am just trying to give him a good feeling about this deal. I figure the more folks who talk with him the better. And besides, he is a nice guy.

I'm thinking that I'll stay at the Lodge rather than make the drive back and forth to Granbury.
Do y'all suggest that we make our own reservations at the Lodge, or were y'all planning on booking the rooms?

Barry,
I'm booking one of the motel type rooms. Do you want me to reserve you one too?

I appreciate the offer, but I'm not sure how many days I'll stay. So ... when I get it together, I'll book the room myself.

Just a reminder ... Tim, the owner of Indidan lodge is holding all the cabins for us until the 1st week of Feb. If you are interested in this deal, call him and let him know. This is shaping up to be a fun weekend.
