Can’t resist posting a photo of my new 70p. I saw Dusty’s at the *********, Montana glass gathering and kind of went nuts over it. Fortunately Chris had taken the last two 70p blanks out of “The Vault” and was going to build them. I jumped at the chance and asked Chris to make a clone of Dusty’s rod with just a few changes. I couldn’t be happier with the resulting rod. Love it!

Jay, I’m traveling so don’t have the rod with me but it’s exactly like the grip on Dusty’s 70p. Shown here on his table at the ********* Clave:

Your aesthetic choices are top notch Duff! The Kineya with that reel seat spacer are perfect Sir!

Mine are as follows: Stout 70p and a 1940 1492 Medalist

Excellent purchase! My 70p will be with me as long as I can keep fishing. You won't find a better small stream rod. Altho I'm very curious about Chris's Synthesis series. Can those even be better?

I’ve recently found a very nice used 70p that a fellow board member was willing to part with and I’m pretty excited to get it in my hands (hopefully in the next day or two). I’ve had my eye on Chis’s 70p for quite some time and feel fortunate to be following in your footsteps Duff!

A little late one night I was looking at DinoC's classified and almost pulled the trigger - that would have been one in Stout and one in Yellow, one for my wife and one for me, well sorta.........
Congratulations tonemike!

Congratulations tonemike!

Thanks! I’m excited to put this rod through it’s paces. The rod is even nicer looking than I’d hoped. I just can’t say enough about Chris Barclay’s build quality! Now I’ve got the fun job of deciding which lines I like best and then which reels I choose to spool them onto. Of course, having a rod out on the water is best, but for me, playing around matching lines and reels to a new rod is something I really do enjoy!!

I have the final prototype which became the taper used for the 70p, in stout. It's been all over and caught tons and tons of fish. I use an old sculpted pillar 1492 with a one pfoot foot and a barrio small stream line. Enjoy yours!Image

I like the look of your little Medalists on the 70p. I’ve got some 1492s and some Gems around. I should probably try and dig up a OnePfoot or two.

I never got to cast his new series but did cast a lot of Chris's rods over the years and the 70P was my faverite for sure.......Aurelio

Hey glacier, we were at GNP last July. I'm a pastor and we were working with kids at the Flathead reservation. But we took one day off to head to the park. We were mostly there to hike / sight see, so I didn't have a lot of time to fish, but we did manage to catch a few cutties on the St. Mary's.

Hey Duff,
What line do you have spooled on that cool old skeleton reel?
Looks really nice paired up with your sunny yellow 70p. :)

Mike, it's a DT3 Cortland Sylk. I had it on the Kineya Cavous and just used it for the photo because of the color match to the blank. That line proved to be a little light for the 70p. I tried a SA Ultra WF4 and DT4 but thought they were a bit too heavy. After trying a few more lines I found the SA Ultra DT3 was a perfect match. (I've stockpiled the SA Ultra lines so don't have much experience with the new lines out there so not sure what would be comparable to the Ultra DT3.) I'm thinking a Sylk DT4 might also be a good line with the 70p. I don't know how Chris came up with this taper but it's pure magic IMHO.

The reputation and superlatives attached to this rod are well earned. I feel lucky that I picked up my 70p stout when Mr Barclay was closing out the series last year. Ultimate small stream rod. Mine works great with a 406 DT4 on a CFO III.
