A couple of years back I decided to support a Kickstarter project from Edge Rods by Gary Loomis. The material in this blank is linen fiber which is quite similar to fiberglass performance wise, and it has less impact on our environment. Not to forget, the translucent bamboo colored blank looks pretty amazing! I brought this rod to The London Flyfishing Fair in March, and among all spectacular rods in the Alternative Tackle stand, this stood out as an eye catcher. I'm happy to say the action and taper is as good as it looks. This is an 8'2'', 4wt, medium progressive rod with a smooth tip and lots of butt reserve. Very light in hand, and slightly bigger diameter in the lower section. It reminds me of the Larry Kenney rods, which is a compliment. This rod was built in Fine Tackle signature style, with a very special sliding ring made by my dear friend Jory Ward in Utah. Jory is an amazing bamboo builder, and made this ring from bamboo shaves glued together to a ring. The rest of the rod is pretty straight forward, Snake Brand Originals and Kimono silk. Edge Rods will start producing these linen blanks during 2018, and I'm very curious about the rest of the line up. If all of them are as good as this one, they are on to something big...

Thanks for looking!
Christian

Very nice! I like the reel seat & minimalist look. I can’t help but wonder how a linen pre-preg looks and behaves while it’s being rolled and baked.

Christian, Excellent work. The linen fiber presents a new horizon for fly fishers and rod builders. Curious to cast a rod built with this material. Mr. Loomis knows a thing or two about tapers and if it reminds you of the feel of a fiberglass rod of Mr. Kenney it will be quite well received.

Until the Linen Flyrodders forum gets started will look forward to seeing your next innovation with this material on these pages.

I agree with this - very organic looking to say the least.
