Michigan glass gathering brought together three interesting parabolic five weight fly rods of similar length. Shown below is "The Pure" by Yamame a 7' 2" three section five weight; a Chris Barclay model 75P four section 7' 4" 4/5 weight and a McFarland 7' 2" prototype yellow three section five weight. Each fly rod would be best described as between semi-parabolic to parabolic in nature. Great to be able to test cast these unique fly rods in succession.

I am hoping that there will be a bit more narrative coming out!

Several of us gave them a side by side comparison. Fred Paddock has provided the best description of "The Pure" in his initial write up of the rod. Brief summary from limited test casting: Barclay 75P had the tightest loops of the bunch and liked to be pushed. A rod that you could fish a distance relative to its length without trouble. "The Pure" was a great all around rod, felt nice to cast and the summary by Fred in an earlier post noted above describes it well. The McFarland was only a prototype and was my least favorite of the bunch of these three rods. At the event Mike had several other prototypes (glass 7 weight, hybrid four weight and others) which I really thought were great but these other rods were not as parabolic or in the length of the rods shown in this post.
