I used a cheap blank, probably made in far east ( or west!? ..depends in which direction you're looking ;) ) It's a three piece 6'6'' long for a two weight line. It's quite soft , with a "central/progressive" action. To complete the rod I used some material I had "lying around"... Some champagne stoppers for the grip and reel seat. Two stainless steel rings for holding the reel in place, some "dental" wire for snakes, two color thread for the wraps and some varnish.. I know it's not very "pretty" but it works fine.. ;)

Fine job on that blank -- east or west, north or south -- you did it justice. I think it's nice looking too. What did you use to finish coat it? Did you make your own snake guides from "dental wire?" At the end of the day a well-built and functional fishing rod is what matters most.

Thanks for the kind words :) I made the snake guides of 0,6mm thick stainless steel wire which is commonly used in dental "industry".. Wraps are varnished with varnish for wooden boats..

That is quite a nice looking rod, but what I would really like to know more about is such a unique reel. Please, do tell.

The reel is made by an italian reelmaker, Andrea Satto - Mandi.

Thanks for posting the link to that reel-maker's website. After checking out some of his work, all that I can say is: "WOW!"

For making snake guides you need a special tool, basically it's composed of two plates with some holes in them.. In 2005 I wrote an article on rodmaking for my friend's website, there is a part where you can see the tool and how to use it.. It is written in my language, you may use the google translator (slovenian /english). Here's the link: http://www.josko.org/index.php/cepljenke

Savli, I followed your link to a web page which looked very interesting -- wow! --- a lot of rodbuilding photos, graphs, technical data, and text. When I clicked on 'english' at the top of the page, it displayed a page with completely different content -- not what I was expecting. Am I doing something wrong? I see stringed instruments in your photos, and your icon, so i'm wondering are you also a luthier?

On my friend's site only some basic information is in english, the rest is in slovenian only as is my article.. You may use "copy/paste" and google translator to "decode" the text ;)
(As the theme on luthiery does not match with this forum I can only quickly say that I made two guitars.. one acoustic archtop and one electric. I don't have sound samples of the archtop, electric can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ERk4iccXSRU )
