"OK" I cannot seem to find this in any of the directions for tying this fly. I need to know how wide to cut the foam for the fly known as the "Hippy Stomper". I can find the thickness but not the width of the foam. Any help appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Mark

"OK" Here's the image you've all been waiting for! Drum roll please.........................For your angling and fly tying enjoyment..................The Halloween Hippy Stomper!!!

Tied for the ubiquitous Salmon Fly that abounds here in Big Sky Country. Unfortunately this years crop of big bugs is being blown away by a horrific run-off and I won't get much of a chance to try it out until later in July in the Yellowstone Canyon in YNP. Tied on a #6 1xl, 2xh Tiemco #3761. Colors to match the Salmon Fly. Enjoy! Next up is then Golden Stonefly version.

Those orange ones are deadly in the Driftless and in NM too.

The ones we were fishing has sort of a "Dreamcicle orange" color foam.

Nice ! That is a color combination I did not imagine. I've had good luck with black of course, but the blue and red seem a bit like the damsel and dragonflies we have locally. I should probably also try green and tan, as hopper-like bugs.

.......a hunch combined with experimentation is always best. What others say is always suspect?

i tied mine according to the original specs except i used 2 layers of 2mm foam and doubled the legs .I left the legs long so i can adjust on the water if they foul often.I will use these bigger ones for smallmouth streams.Black on black with peacock uv ice for the belly. This to me is one of those looks like nothing/looks like everything flies.will float great and the subtle leg twitches as it tumbles thru seams and eddies should make it a winner.

I tied some of these up on a whim for a trip to Idaho. The cutts liked them so much that hardly used any other fly. They were #12 with a single layer of black 2mm foam and red flashabou for the underbody. Just a great attractor fly.

these look fantastic, I know some BlueGill and Bass that would really enjoy eating one of these. I'll have to give this pattern a go
