Been October fishing in the wind, last few days. I used a small but heavily weighted sculpin fly trailing one of these 24" inches behind. This was a good fly. Duck flank tails, Silver Lateral Scale body with a gold wire rib and a Senyo Laser Dub Right Hackle. The silver Lateral Scale holds the hackle down loosely. A drop of glue from the underside holds it more permanently in place, as a last step.
They sure do like the flash. I have boxes and boxes of old dully, naturally, match-the-hatch colored flies I never use anymore. My fly boxes hardly have any shiny flashy bugs at all, because they're the ones I use and lose. So I'm always on the verge of running out. The dull ones just sit there. Gathering dust.
