If you are intimidated by spinning deer hair, or using an Xacto knife or dremmel to carve balsa & punched foam, THIS is your diver pattern.

Durable, floats low, dives perfectly and brings fish to the top.

Foam Diver Recipe
Hook: #2 Gamakatsu Stinger
Thread: Black 3/0 Uni-thread
Tail: Olive Bucktail / Yellow-Barred Neck Hackle
Legs: Medium Bared-Centipede
Abdomen: Medium Chenille
Body: 2mm Fly Foam

Is this different from a stealth bomber other than how tight the foam is tied and where the legs are placed?

The legs looks like they are a lot easier to tie in back near the hook shank. I love sliders and the foam ones are easy to tie and they actually hold up really well, especially when fishing around rocks. Hitting a rock with a popper can really do damage to the epoxy coatings and even crack the body.

Nope, not really. Just a generic version I was shown some time ago and have continued to tie. :)

I personally prefer deer hair, but go to foam usually once the algae gets too heavy.

Why would that dive? Looks like front foam is over the eye and it should skate on the water, not dive. What am I missing if I want a diver and tie that one? Looks more like the surface Gurgler to me.

Th flat folded face of the gurgler is what cause it to churn through the surface like it does because it is still being pulled under. The trimmed head causes this fly to dive down and bob back to the surface when stripped in with short aggressive strips because there is no resistance.

Aside from that explanation......when I fish it......it dives. ;)

The tying video shows the head in more detail.
