JoeFriday and Crusty:
Can't test this right now, so asking... do you think you could add a ring after the 3x section of that leader and use 3x-6x Tippet without having to change leaders?

Seems to me it should be no problem to do that.

Yes and no. Yes for 5x and 6x. No, if you expect to cast bigger flies. With a butt of .018", you won't get enough power transfer to cast flies that big. Brett says he's casting BWO's which are tiny. Again, when talking about leaders, you need to mention what you want it to do. I consider Brett's leader to be for turning over small flies with light fly lines. If you want a leader to cast bigger flies that you would use 3X and 4X for, there are better leader designs for that. There are leader designs that would cover 3X to 6X but you need a bigger butt and a longer tippet that can be adjusted down. For a 9ft 3X-6X leader on a 3 or 4 wt I would suggest

.020" - 3ft
.016" - 1ft
.011" - 1ft
.008" - 1.5ft with tippet ring on end
3X-6X - 2.5ft

You can check my spreadsheet for many leader types for line weights from 1 to 12wt.
