Soft Hackle Devastator, size 14. This pattern has been really good to me this year. It's one of those flies you can tie on at home and just head to the water knowing it will catch trout.......every where!

That squid fly is really cool, and I recently started tying Klinkhamers, so the € flies look very familiar :)

One item on my to-do list was to try some Royal Coachman / Wulff variations (was inspired by the Royal Coachman thread a while back). The rainy season here has begun, so back at the vise after a busy autumn. Feeling rusty ...

I used the tightlinevideo technique of red thread in the middle instead of red floss, and a single post made of white polypro. Also tied another set using a single calf tail hair post. It might be next spring or summer before I actually try to fish these.

Thanks Dale, I got skunked on Murray yesterday but it may still be too early for them to be schooled

Experimenting with catgut nymphs (FYI, it's not made from cats :), more similar to suture material I think).

First time I've tried this little experiment (the water soak).

I really like the appearance of those wet nymphs. Where did you get the catgut and what size did you use? Thanks, Roy

Thanks. I bought mine from Competitive Angler. It is the Troutline brand, probably available from other e-tailers. These are on #16 hooks, and the sizing recommendations seemed reasonable; I used size small for these.

I was able to google some nice sites and youtube videos on working with the stuff. Hopefully the fish will like it too :)

I the same vein of Randy's post, some big fish baits

Winter is terrible because I spend far too much time indoors dreaming of warmer weather and bigger fish. And if I can't go fishing, I tie flies. Last year's streamer fever is not subsiding, if anything its getting worse. If it continues I may wind up fishing a season never picking up a baitcaster rod or throwing a dry fly at some point.

Yesterday's lunch seems to express what I am feeling too.

Wow, those look tasty :)

Midges on my mind.

Disco, Zebra and Mercury variations. Size 18 and 20 hooks (my first time with anything that small) and glass beads.
