Here's a "mini llama"....instead of standard crystal flash for the sides, I used predator wrap. I've been playing around with throwing streamers on my 6'3" Parametric with an Ambush and a short section T-8 through T-14 (provided I keep the tip to 4-5' with the heavier ones). It throws amazingly well with smaller streamers, so it'll be interesting with this (and the added weight I incorporated into it) one does.

Tied up a few Llano bugs today in all different color combos. We have had nothing but rain and thunderstorms today so I thought what better day to do this. Good thing too. It turns out that I only had one left in my fly box.

Nice crab musicar. Apparently it works! Is it weighted?

Thanks guys... Indeed, Diablo-style crabs work very well and not only for stripers. They are weighted but make a gentle splash. You can tie them fuller or sparser and vary underbody color to get different hues.

EP shrimp. New for me, but love how they swim and look in the water. They capture the look of the real thing when wet and in motion.

The fish will decide. Hope to get their decision soon.

I tried in the Texas surf early yesterday morning a couple of the previous EP shrimp ties I tied. Those got me about a dozen Speckled trout and a whiting. So late yesterday, I tied a few more. It’s definitely a fly that looks better in the water than out. Trying out different weighting, colors on the eyes and legs. Pink legs worked yesterday.

The Speckled trout, mostly under 14”, aggressively attacked the pattern. The fish responded to 2-3 fast, long strips with a pause in between. Slow strips or drifts yielded nothing. There was a lot of commotion at or just below the surface of the sandy green water. That got me on the track to speed up my presentation.

Dorato Hare's Ear. Recipe calls for longer wings and shorter tail than usual. I trimmed a "V" in the bottom of the hackle to have it sit upright. Original uses mixed grizzly and brown tail fibers. I subbed woodchuck. It's a buggy one.

Interesting to tie the eyes in at the eye of the hook on that EP shrimp, rather than the bend. I like it. Probably less fouling.

Yes, no real observed eye fouling yet. I haven’t fished it a ton. The legs occasionally get out of position on the fly, but not enough to be an issue. The eyes are supposed to double as weed guards. I try hard not to fish flies with weed guards. I’ve had trouble in the past setting the hook on redfish when using patterns with weed guards. I’m usually interested in not fouling on oyster shell in place of grass and have found guards or no guards, the most important thing to aid in not snagging on the shell is to be right on target on the cast and on the rate of retrieve. I kind of think lowering the angle of the eyes a little to be about even with the hook point but on either side of the point wouldn’t hurt the action or look at all and might help the hook set, if indeed the hook set is an issue.

So far on the EP shrimp, I’ve caught several small Speckled trout and a whiting and the hook set worked out on those. I did miss the set on a redfish. I’m still playing around with this pattern and haven’t settled at all on what colors or proportions of materials I like best.

I tied this musky streamer up a couple of weeks ago, but haven't had a chance to fish it yet. The pattern it's based on, has serious mojo so hopefully the addition of chartreuse bucktail will only add to that! I've got the movement I want nailed down, so now just playing around with additional colors (slowly but surely).
Cheers!

Some Bullen Merri Specials, or my take on them, and some modified redfish crack. All tied with primarily sheepshead in mind. Kalgrm, Graeme from Oz, turned me on to the BMS as good black bream patterns in these colors. Black bream are close relatives of sheepshead so I will see if the flies translate to ‘merica.

I’ve caught sheepshead on the modified redfish crack. I just downsized these just a bit to better fit sheepshead’s small jaws. Fall and winter have been when I’ve seen the most sheepshead so I’ll have some new weapons to use on them.

adding a little color, new tying techniques, more bucktail, less flash....compared to what I normally tie for Tiger Muskies.

Cheers!

Clarkman a couple of nice ties! Curious how much time it takes to assemble that second one. Any idea?
