I don't know if you follow The Fiberglass Manifesto or not but I have been working on a lot of content for the Year of the Bluegill and would like to post a step by step tutorial on the ever deadly Briminator.

Image

Anyone up for putting together the photos and step by step information for it?

What is the origin of this pattern as well? I think Texas, eh? The fly above was tied by beauglass ... but I'm afraid he's far to busy right now to consider a tutorial.

Here's my simple version:
Image
materials shown are complete for tying briminator including a couple of golden pheasant feathers and the feathers from the ring neck.
The fly is tied using one fieather; one side of the bottom fluff is used for the tail and the other side of the fluff becomes the body after being spun on the thread and palmered to the beadchain eyes. The top portion of the feather is palmered around the back of the beadchain eyes, two or three turns is sufficient, raking the fibers back before taking another turn. A little dab of fluff is then tied around the chain eyes and the whipfinish is done between the eyes and the hook eye.

I use the mustad 3366 or the big eye 3366A size 6 to 12, but almost any hook will do -p-

I've caught some of my best fish on Pearow's Briminator - he ties a mean one for sure!

I think this has to be one of the easiest to tie bream killers out there! And such a mystery fly, most people have never heard of it. The fun part is how many people I show it to can't believe how simple and economical it is to tie and how effective it is!

Pearow: Do you always tie the hackle in bye the butt? I always tie gamebird feathers in by the tip.

yes, because of the long fibers the subsequent thread wraps behind the eyes will tilt the hackles back to the desired angle; and the fly is much more durable. I will make a couple of thread wraps thru the hackle for security as the brim are good at tearing up a fly
this fly is also effective tied on the little 1/100 oz jigheads-p-

Good fly, P, and thanks for the tutorial. Wish I had a camera like yours.

If you are ever in Walmart at the craft section you can find a packet of feathers very similar to your pheasant feathers that work pretty good as well. Cheap is good!

yeah, I've tied them with a lot of different feathers but I think whoever invented the briminator looked at the hourglass pheasant feather and said, "what can I tie using only this feather?" because they're a perfect match-p-

Gene,

Ever thrown these to yellow bass, (or are the Caddo Specials just too good to bother)?

I've used them tied on the 1/100 oz jigs for yellow bass but not with chain eyes; don't know why because they'll bite them if you get it down in front of them-p-

I thought about redoing the pictures in my foil pencil popper thread, but apparently there is no way to edit a post that you previously made on this forum once someone replies.

Unfortunately on FFR this is true. You can edit on CFRF (sister site) but not delete once another post has been made. You can always just make another post with new photos, comments, etc.

I love this pattern. I've heard of it before but never tied one till I saw it here. It's gotta be the simplest pattern around. The only thing that might be simpler is a Zebra Midge. Thanks Pearow for posting that short tutorial.
