I've actually gotten a lot of building done this summer with our heavy rains, but I am thinking about what to tackle in the winter.

Does anyone have an idea for a group build? That would be where everyone builds out a similar blank in their own style.

Or maybe a rebuild party? Grab an old beater and refinish it.

I have more than enough projects to do without another one added in, but it would be fun to work on something that other people are working on at the same time.

I like the idea. beater rebuilds might be fun, with before and after pictures.

I’d be game for a beater rebuild. In fact I’ve got a Shakespear better sitting here waiting to be done.

I just did a rebuild! But I could rattle the rod rack and find another.

It sounds like a rebuild project has some interest. I have a bright yellow K-Mart branded Parametric that would do really well stripped down with a few more guides added.

There aren't any rules, but if you can, before and after pictures would be great.
In fact, why doesn't everyone start their own thread with their build and add to it as the build progresses. I'm not planning on starting for a while, but maybe I can get some pictures up of the "before" state.

Day-later update: early this year I picked up a Shakespeare 1270 project rod from one of our guys. The label is barely legible, the guides were loose, and the cork was falling off so everything has been long removed, but the ferrules and seat are good. That's my rebuild project.

Otherwise I have 22 more blanks in need of from-scratch building and a few in need of rebuilds. Gonna be busy for a while.

I am planning on stripping down a eagleclaw 7/8wt 8’6 this winter. Add me to the list.

My original plan was to remove the guides and blue EVA grip and get a new reelseat. The yellow paint ended up chipping during the year down so it looks like I’m going to be sanding and repainting. Hopefully not scrapping.

Cool -- I added you to the 2018-2019 FFR Winter Rebuild-A-Palooza Mashup. When we are all finished we can meet to fish our frankenrods. LOL!

This sounds like fun. Any idea on the time table? I am in the process of refinishing a rod, so no "before" pics available. I'd like to keep an eye out for another to pick up so I can participate.

How about a master thread where people can post updates, kinda like the what's on your bench thread?

I figured everyone is going to start and finish at a different time, so if each person starts a thread for their own build, the story of each build will be there in its own thread.

There is a great start going on this. Someone suggested one thread for all, so I thought about combining all. But I see the original suggestion was separate threads, and several are started. So it's more practical now to leave separate threads, updated by each builder as the work progresses.

One suggestion that might help keep them easily identifiable. Try to remember using winter 2018-19 in the subject line. You can edit/add that to a reply post, and if the lead post subject line is edited, it will carry into replies made after the edit. I've now done that with several, but if I missed any, the builder can self edit the lead post subject line, or I will do it when a new post brings it up. Later, it will be easier to search these with "winter 2018-19" included in the query.

Ever since I lost some dexterity after wrist surgery a few years ago, I've been pretty much of a dub rodbuilding, but I might have to bear down and do one for this winter. It's a great idea to get some new or old builders going.

I know I'm a little late to the game, but I've got a 1280T that could use some TLC, sooo, why not rewrap while i'm at it?

I've got a SB 359-9 on the bench with it so this will give me something to do between coats of varnish.
