Has anyone rebuilt a 502 or the FR 2000’s? I’m guessing the blanks will be reddish brown?

We’re the guides kept in the same place?

Looking for hardware to match Orvis Battenkill III.

Thanks.

I have a cache of 4 FR-2000's in differing configs awaiting rebuild someday.

I plan to remove/replace grip (too long) and reel seat (too long, metal),
remove all guides and add/re-space replacements.

Not sure about blank finish, if I will strip it, and re-do?
Or just leave original.

I re-built a Cortland Crown several years back that came out great.

I may just redo the guides and replace the handle and reel seat. I coulda bought an wonderful condition 502 on eBay last week but passed on what looked to be almost brand new with a Cortland reel. Went for $32. Gonna challenge myself on a rebuild.

Handle fell out the first day I bought it for $8. I used JB Weld epoxy. That’ll be fun to remove.

No worries Panfish. If the seat won't come off just cut it off where it meets the cork grip, put your new seat on a stent and glue it up, and done. That will be a fun project. Let us know how it goes. :-)
