Just aquired this 2 piece blank. It is dark brown in color, instead of the yellow. Is this a FF70 or FF705 equivalent. How many guides (and size) did Fenwick use on these rods? I was thinking of black wraps, any other suggestions?

Thanks for the input, I appreciate it!

I have a FL-84-F which I call Caramel in color, not yellow or dark brown (which I call chocolate). I built this rod in 1989 and it was in the 1988 catalog. I'm not sure what the factory rods used but I used 8 guides spaced per Dale Clemens as I recall. Black main wraps with Gudebrod CP 340 (gold) trim wraps.

Muddler, that is a beautiful looking rod! Love the color combo on the wraps. I've got Dale's book, so I can go with that spacing. Thanks for the help!

I believe the 84 refers to 84 inches, so it would be the 705. I'll pull mine out and count the guides for you over lunch...

Fenwick also did a dark chocolate brown looking blank, I have a 856? version, wrapped in the same colors as above.

I think you could work out your spacing or use a variety of generic charts, but you might find guidance in the Fenwick material (below the Orvis listings) here: viewtopic.php?p=128796#p128796

USPS crushed the heavy cardboard tube that the rod blank was packaged in.... there goes that project.

The Ebay seller is taking care of everything (we'll see). Still a real bummer.
