Has anyone successfully removed the 'Melon' paint on the ARE blanks? If so, what did you use (short of sandpaper...). I'd default to citrustrip, but just wondering if anyone's got first hand experience.

The switch/spey blanks aren't offered in natural.

Can't find citristrip up here in canada so I use ez strip. Purchased a batch of blanks from the far east (same as ARE) and stripped a couple this winter. Can't remember how long I let it sit for, but since it's been so cold this winter in Vancouer I believe it took a lot longer than it would have if it were warm. Paint eventually melts right off after two or three treatments. I re painted mine. Glue job on the ferrules is horrible and shows through the clear blank.

Blank's still in the post from the states so it's all theoretical as yet - will keep you informed.

Thanks, Andy! I'll give that a try.

Please do. I curious to see if you have luck with it. Which blank did you get?

It's the 10ft 2/3. Going for an ultralight switch and nymphing rod.

Let me know what you think of it. I was thinking about building that up awhile ago and then another blank caught my eye. Johnny told me that he really likes that blank.

I built the 10ft 3/4 about 18mo ago and sold it this fall - it worked but I was looking for a lighter line rod. It wanted a head in the mid 200s for spey casting and at least a 6wt SH for overhead. Hopefully this one will be lighter.
