I have nothing on my bench right now, but am awaiting an Iwata "Geek" 6'6" 2wt 4pc in Flame color I ordered from Blue Heron (Japan) through Marty Romeo. Looking forward to building it. My motivation for the 2wt was Ponil Creek I fished at Aurelio's in July. Roy

I just recently won a Hammerhandled Phillipson P86F and it needed to be rewrapped. So I did so, with new bright Mildrum strippers, the original snake guides and black silk. Its not perfect but I did not expect it to be. Certainly fishable. Pics later.

Nick :)

Nice work going on here as usual!

I have three Cortland Diamondback II rods on my bench in various stages of construction. I was hoping to present them as a series to sell on my website around Christmas. I am hoping to have pictures of the builds in progress shortly.

I still have one more fishing trip to make first, I hear the October Caddis are showing! :)

Yes, acetone is usually used for epoxy, but it can be a pretty nasty chemical. However, TM1 is a water-based finish and can be thinned by DNA or water. I have chosen DNA as it is more volatile than water and should set up faster.

These are my results on silk wraps with no colour preserver. I believe the black wrap has two coats of TM1, and the white wrap has 3. The finish is drying hard and clear, and levels out wonderfully.

Sometimes we don't say where.

Well boys, I have been somewhat hobbled in fishing and building ever since my various surgery and illness bouts over the last four or five years. This year I have felt sturdy enough for thigh deep wading and fished more. I am getting used to less feel in my fingertips and being more visual in tying leaders, flies and such--working up to finishing an 8' Fisher for 6 weight.

So off I went yesterday to check on the big brown trout. Even rigging a rod can be a nuisance, so I just took a Cortland 5/6 that was all set up.

That was foolish.

The fish were there, boiling under a rampaging current. I hooked two, both well over five pounds, which is more like 15 in that current. I had no control and lost both after multiple sulking shakes and fly-line length runs. A size 14 beadhead is not the best hook to hold with a lot of pressure on a fish, and even the Cortland could pressure them enough to bend it open or break it. You have to max close to that or else they are out 100 yards and never coming back.

Oh well. It came to me that in that situation you usually lose 4 out of 5 of those brutes.

So I have to scrounge up some fit tackle. Get busy tying some 14 size flies on size 10 hooks and sort through my six and seven weights.

Or finish up the Fisher that was on my bench and should be soon. Having lost two, I've got three more to hook before landing one.

Glad you're back in the river. That's some heavy current in those Maine rivers. I have a memory of standing crotch-deep in the Haycock Rips on the St. Croix. I was maybe 13 years old; no way I'd try that today.

Looking forward to seeing the Fisher.

I just finished restoring a #55 Heddon 8-1/2' Bass Rod that was my grandfathers. I know it's not worth anything to anyone else, but I'm looking forward to catching some fish on it and it actually casts really well. I'm waiting on a 2wt glass blank that appears to have been lost by the USPS. Also have a bamboo blank to build.

Trying to get the nerve to start on this Ijuin Hard Para 3wt I picked up recently. Thinking of using this Struble U27 I've been keeping. Still need to make a final thread choice. FYI, cork in the pic is not the one I'll use here, just a lower grade test grip.

Preast,

That reelseat looks neat on the Injun. That's one of the blanks I have on my list to get when I get past some of my current backlog.

I've got 4 graphite rods that I just glued up the grips and reel seats.

Just got my Steffen 6ft 2pc 2/3wt blank in the mail. That makes two 2/3wts to build. Such hard work!

Tomah - according to Mark and Tim, they were still thinking on it and if they did, probably next year. Mine was something of an alignment of the universe and all things went right. Roy

not that i'm interested -- because i dont enjoy fishing rods shorter than 7'-- but if enough folks here on the forum are interested in that blank you might have a better chance of scoring. there is power in numbers, so, you never know.

and, to get back to the topic... i have on my bench (still) a 7'3" PLG blank. grip is done and glued to blank. guides are taped up. i used 8 pac bay lite wire snakes and a 9mm mildrum style stripping guide. now ready to wrap and install reel seat. have been wrestling with which seat, and which thread! such weighty issues, i know. lol!!! pictures soon.
