That farlex is really interesting at first glance I thought it was one of those old japanese orth fork reels but it looks much nicer then that.

Thanks

Farlex reels are awesome to say the least. strong G&P.
As good as anything being made today and Tim Gelinas is a fantastic
person to deal with along with being a master craftsman.

So I Finally received some of my reels in the mail.

From left to right; 3" JW Young & Sons Pridex (been looking for one in good condish for quite some time), Airex Meisselback 370,371, and a 377 and finally a Farlow 4" Python. The cool thing is they all came in their original boxes with their paper work. They're also in amazing condition for their age and reel type. I still have a Herters reel on the way. I'll post that one when it arrives.

I really like how slick the spring tension adjustment is setup on the 377.

I'm so glad I was able to find some nice Airex's I used to have a 370 and 371 but like a fool I sold them, and had regretted it ever since so when these three popped up I had to grab them. Especially at the price I got them for. I got all three for less then 100.

I'd say this had been a good reel month for me.

I received an Orvis Madison I today. It's in great condition and I really like it, plus, I got it for less than I see a lot of Martins go for. It holds a WF5F and lots of backing.

Tight lines,
Bob

Cannot show pictures on this board (yet), but can chime in to say that my new Scientific Angler's 50th Anniversary System 5 reel is a pleasure to use.
I seemed to have come a full circle with this reel style. Started out in the mid 1980s with a Marquis click-check #5 (then later, a #5 silent-check), now I'm fishing a gussied-up version of a Hardy Marquis #5.
Great little reels.

This may work. Pictures can be found on this thread:

A Hardy Zenith: a wide-arbor (1.25") as opposed to large-arbor reel, here with a rather old DT9F line and about 75 yards of backing.
Bought for fishing for sea-run browns, I haven't yet had a big fish on, but the design appears to prioritise noise over actual drag. I suspect it will work just fine, though.

I got a new Sage 509. It's a beast.

And I found a JAF Aerial 2.5" in Silver. It's really pretty.

What a great bunch of reels. Especially the JAF aerial. That is one reel I've been looking for, for a LONG thing without any luck.

Here's one that's not too old, but discontinued and I consider it a "classic"...

Image

It's a Lamson-manufactured Orvis DXR 5/6 and spare spool. I plan to mount it on a Fenwick FF806 that's on its way to me. I also have Ross- and Lamson-manufactured DXR 7/8s, three Ross DXR 9/10s and a DXR 9/10 Anti-reverse.

A lot of folks don't care for the offset disc drag, but I've been using them for many years and find that cleaning the drag stack components and keeping them free of lubricants will have the drag performing faultlessly. Lots of Cape Cod striped bass can attest to this! ;)

I'll be using this smaller DXR for warm water/stillwater fishing, along with my other downsized big game reels from Orvis: an Odyssey+ 1, a Mirage I and a couple of DXR 7/8s (one Ross and one Lamson manufacture).

Tight lines,
Bob

I just received fro Jason here an older Orvis Battenkiil 3/4 made in England that is in fine shape and goes nicely with the seaweed CTS 763 Vlad made for me.

And I have a still older Orvis Battenkill Mark IV made in England with a spare spool on the way. It is destined for my SFG 866.

These things could be addictive.

I'm jealous, that's a beauty!

Been trying to pick up a beaudex lately but they seem to really be bringing top dollar.

Oh my gosh, the world famous Herter's Rolls that was the best in the world and thereby the world standard, and in case it is not mentioned on the papers or box, the world's finest. One of a very few flyfishing items I wish I had purchased in its time, in this case instead of some junk of a Pflueger copy at about the time Herter's began sourcing more and more fishing items elsewhere, new entrants in the fishing market who lacked the design and build quality and experience of JW Young or Pflueger, Akron O.

I threw out the Pflueger copy long ago, but unless it got accidentally thrown out with my late 1960s Herter's catalogs, I'm sure I would still have and use a Rolls to this day.

Forgive me a suggestion, too, because I am not sure if there is a problem and if so, of the best solution. I hope someone will know to ensure your enjoyment of the reel. I seem to recall that the Herter's badge could fall off--cosmetic only--but a loss on the iconic Herter's product. If that's the case, you could check the security of the attachment, removing and resecuring with a stronger glue if necessary.

Great reel. Thanks for showing.

A few days ago I picked up a well-worn but perfectly mechanical 2 screw Hardy Featherweight. Will go well with the beat up LRH I've been fishing relentlessly for a couple years.
