All I have an Akron made 1498 medalist ( 6 rivet spool) that I have modified and added other parts to such as cutting part of the back out to install a leather patch to palm and added a aluminum latch cover.

My next want is to replace the plastic drag adjustment knob with the metal one that came on some earlier medalists.

I believe I read an article saying that there are two different lengths of medalists drag adjustment knobs depending on what year the reel is.

Does anyone know if I can take one of these metal knobs from a older 1496, 1495, or 1494 swap them in?

The 1494 wont fit,its shorter than the 1498.Im pretty sure the 1495 adjuster is the same length as the 1498.If you have an original metal one fine, but One Pfoot manufactures new ones.

I would hate to destroy a 1496 to fix a 1498. My one big wish was Pflueger made a 1496 with left hand wind. Would have been perfect reel for my longer bamboo. Seems 1498 just holds way to much backing for any fishing I would ever do.

(Weighs too much also in my opinion)

Buy a OnePfoot version and in 10 minutes it will be swapped out.

Piece of cake!

Thanks for the info everyone. Another part of my reason for canibalizing another reel would be getting another metal latch cover as well since at times you can get a beat up round line guard model like I mention for cheaper than retro fitting with one o foot parts.
