Just wondering if folks usually push the spool release while putting a spool on to their reel. I started doing it after having trouble with several Youngs getting that little release lever bar bent.

Not sure if it stops wear and tear on most reels, but don't think it can hurt.

some designs will be fine with a push, but the Youngs are not one of those..
Pfleuger and most Hardys are happy to engage with a light pressure. Any more than light pressure and I'll be operating the lever/pushbutton/slide..

This is how I have always thought was right - you use it taking off the spool, so I use it putting it on. Just logical to do it that way, for me anyway.

Actually just trying to plant a seed so those that don't do it might consider changing their ways.

Looks like most already doing it.
