I've read it over a couple of times to make sure I am seeing it correctly, but the CGR2 reel (5/6 wt lines) is $10 currently. Just thought I'd share in case anyone is looking for a nice and cheap clicker.

For that price I grabbed 5. Good to have some extra for gifts, ect.

A while back I picked up some extra spools for just under $8, but $10 for a whole reel is just ridiculous. Even at the full list price I think the reel is a good value--very similar to the original Ross Colorados. A downright steal at $10.

Get 'em while they last. These are nice reels. What a bargain.

Picked up mine today. Best bargain in fly reels to be had this year.

UPS just dropped my reel off.
I'm now totally regretting not having bought more.
What a deal this reel is.

Great deal, but Prime rod for $49.88 isn't too bad either.

I picked mine up at the store yesterday. Best $10.43 reel I've ever had. But I only needed one. I'll spread the opportunity around to other fans.

I grabbed one of those too, the 7'1" 4 wt.
:)
It arrived today. I'm looking forward to getting it out on the water.

The Cabela's site is showing the CGR reel as being sold out.

Ordered 2, I'm waiting for delivery. My son started fly fishing this year and I gave him a few reels. Now he will have 2 more.

Got mine today, can't believe how nice they are. The tolerance between the spool and the frame is excellent. Like others, should have bought a handful of them.

I was just checking out my new cheap CGR reel and noticed some play in the spool. Enough that it clunks and shows about 2mm deviation with any pressure.

All the reels I've owned up til now have been CFOs, LRHs, Kineyas and such, that have never had any wobble at all. Is this normal for the CGR? Not that I'm likely to fret over a $10 reel. But maybe there was a reason they were discontinued.

I bought one too, last week. Mine does not "clunk" and shows very little play, certainly not 2 mm. I've seen worse on better built reels. We'll see how it plays out with some use.

I havent noticed wobble yet with my reel with light use, but did have that before with a different Cabelas brand reel.

I have two and they have no wobble at all. Really surprised me with how well they are built for a cheap reel.

Like the others who responded earlier, no wobble at all with mine. Sounds like you got a bum reel unfortunately.

Mine doesn't wobble and is very smooth. What it does, though, is allow the line to slide past the frame so that the line starts to exit to the rear while I'm casting. This happens frequently, so I'm retiring the reel. Given that it is now worth about $10, I guess it's a paperweight.

I think there's considerable variation in manufacturing these reels. I checked a couple in a Cabela's store, and one of them did have quite a bit of spool play.

I wonder what Cabela's cost is on these reels. About six months ago, I bought a non-Cabela's brand reel from Cabela's at a deep discount as the item was being closed out. When the reel arrived I discovered it had a couple of scratches and I think it may have actually been used. I called Cabela's to see about a replacement, but they didn't have any more in stock and so my choices were a return or to keep it. I asked what sort of price adjustment they could make, and the offer was rather modest. When I said that I thought that was insufficient, the customer service rep explained that the adjusted price was the absolute lowest she could offer as it equaled Cabela's cost and their policy is not to sell items below their cost. Now perhaps that applies to single item adjustments as opposed to a mass, advertised closeout price like with these CGR reels, but it does make me wonder if Cabela's cost is $10 or possibly even less. If so, that might explain the quality variations.

A 50-cent mylar shim, available at any well stocked hardware store, will take care of that, as will any shim fabricated from sheet stock of the appropriate thickness. Avoid shimming so snug that the spool latch is pressured when the spool is in place.

Thanks! I had thought about some kind of shim, but hadn't worked out how to attach etc. Will look for the Mylar. The gap looks pretty large, maybe .050" - .060", so I could get something in there without creating an interference fit that would stress the latch.

Or (and?), I could get another reel. I've been looking at the LL Bean Pocket Water. In the photo on their website, the reel looks to have a full frame. Is this true? I'd welcome any recommendations.
