Well, I have learned that....................Lightweight Vintage Reel = $$$$$. By lightweight, I'm talking 3.2oz max without backing and line. There just were not many made. Let's switch to New Classic styled reels that are lightweight. What is available as good as or as light as the Orvis BBS I (click&pawl)?

Probably more than you want to spend, but the smallest Hardy Marquis LWT (a 2/3) is 3.16 oz and the smallest Duchess (a 1/2/3) is 3.1 oz.

Not currently in production, but the JAF Magnesium mentioned above is 2.2 oz and a Cortland Retro I is 3.1 oz (WF3+40). Also, a Hardy JLH 2/3/4 weighs 3.2 oz, but perhaps more than you want to spend.

Also no longer in production and just above your specified weight limit of 3.2 oz:
-- Redington CT 2/3 3.26 oz
-- Ross Colorado 0 (the original Colorado series) 3.3 oz

A nice and nice looking reel, weighs 3.85 oz

I messaged the guy on the JAF reels, but have not heard from him. How much should the Hardy JLH cost? I might spend it if I knew it was a fair price. The CFO reels I have seen on the auction site are crazy high. $400+

Pocketwater (3.85 oz) - $89
Battenkill BBS I (2.8 oz) - $98

The LL Bean reel looks nice. Curious why the love for this reel vs BBS I at $9 more & 1oz less?

I haven't followed the market lately, but in my opinion the 2/3/4s are the hardest to find and, as such, cost the most. I would say one in good used condition would probably cost in the $175-$215 range. Perhaps less if a real beater and more if dead mint. And the Goldens also seem to cost more than the regular ones (pewter/grey). But really great reels.

I like the Pocketwater, but can't say how it compares to the Battenkill. I won't buy Orvis gear new and so have never bothered to really look at the Battenkill, but the price sure seems right for a lightweight line holder.

The weight of a reel being lighter or the lightest does not tip the scales in its favor, on performance or price. The correct weight of a reel is a positive, but still many other factors to consider.

I think I mentioned it earlier but a Ryobi 255mg is a very light reel -- i bet it weighs under 3oz. They sometimes come up on ebay. What about an Orvis Battenkill Mark III? this is another magnesium reel that is super light and will hold a DT3 + backing.

Good call on the Battenkill MkIII, even the IV is only 3.9 oz and they are inexpensive when you can find them. Or wait out the CFO II, $400 is nuts and I only have $300 into mine with a beautiful spare spool.

it holds a WF6 plus backing, too ;-)
love mine, but not particularly cheap, $60-80 typically.

US-made Martin MC classic already mentioned, is a cheap somewhat heavier reel, with that beautiful Martin sound..

Killer deal on a CFO III which is pretty small (3" dia.) and 3 oz. He has it listed as the larger and cheaper IV when it's clearly a 4 rivet Hardy-made III.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Orvis Battenkill I (or even II) at 2.8 oz and a little under $100. I think they're great-looking reels, and apparently bulletproof. I actually find my Echo Glass 3 wt. tip heavy with the Battenkill II, even with that downlocking pocket seat. Not complaining, just pointing out that you have some wiggle room there on reel weight.

How about an update, which reel hangs on your 3wgt?
