Can anyone give me some feedback, impressions etc on Leland reels ? They look to be well made and in a sort of classic style , but appearances can be deceptive.

They are very nice made in South Korea reels. My Hardy reels (made in England) are better but Leland reels have some aesthetics that can make a nice combo. I will post some pics later. Basically a Hardy clone of sorts.

I tried out several when they first hit the market.. I was quite impressed.

That Classic with the Ross style Daisy cut out holes was my favorite.

Not quite as smooth as my UK made Hardy's, but close and it is not broken in yet so I'm expecting improvement. The 3/4 pictured, is only slightly smaller the an LRH, but heavier.

I purchased one of the Sonoma series reels a couple years back when they were on sale. The springs offered almost no resistance - it was almost a free spool from the get go and one of the pawls chipped on the first use. They sent me replacement pawls without question when I made a call into the shop, which led me to believe it was a common occurrence. I sold it as fast as I could.

I have the Vintage British Columbia Steelhead Spey Reel. It's a joy to use. It has a very stout check, has an excellent and robust finish, some nifty accents and a unique dual handle for extra knuckle busting enjoyment.

I've not been disappointed.

Thank you all for the info. I'm going see if I can find one used to purchase. It seems to be like many other things, opinions vary from person to person. Thanks again.
